Ouija Mummy (2020)

Ohhhhh mmyyy. Let me say right off the bat, when I was only five minutes in to the movie I had concrete decided that I loved it.  I just hope I like it for the right reasons. I really want to show this when I can do group screenings again soon. However what makes it as entertaining is the mystery that is was or was not meant to be delivered the way it was. I think highly of the director and his tastes so I reeeaallly hope you know what you made Seb Godin. Lets take the first 8 minutes post the opening credits of this wonderful home budgeted movie. We get opening credits that looks like the 90s Friday the 13th tv series, I freakin' loved it. Then we meet our main couple. The couple move into their new house . They unpack boxes which is only dvds and magazines (of course) . Then their first morning together we watch them brush their teeth and pee. This morning act of peeing and teeth brushing jumps right into an emotional plot point as they discuss the husbands trauma of losing people when his brother was a drunk driver. The boom in your face dead panned dialogue of something so dark as one of them just stopped peeing makes me feel like the Room and the famous line "I definitely have breast cancer". So of course I fuckin loved it.  In this first 8 minute we have 3 phone conversations and jump to what I guess is Anubis flashing in or just a guy in a rubber wolf mask.  Which if you have seen the Whore Church guys makes it extra funny.(Yes I know only a tiny few of you will get what I mean ) We are dealing with some deep people here . Which I am willing to except until the husband walks in a shirt that immediately reminds you that this movie is filmed in Florida. The Director plays the alcoholic brother and literally sells his role more then anyone else in the movie (kudos). Ok so no more spoilers just know eventually a house party happens and someone is possessed by an ancient Egyptian spirit. Some hilariously over acting happens and the movie moves all of a sudden into fast forward. As I laugh, I feel bad as if I'm making fun of it until the legend him self Joel D Wynkoop shows up as Kungfu Helsing the Chinese food delivery man and then I realize "ooooooohh ok" its supposed to be this way. I feel so much better for laughing and enjoying this as I do. Seriously I'm laughing constantly from the kills and the attack toilet paper (yeah seriously see it).  It's so much fun if for the right reasons or not. I never say this but its too short. When the shit hits the fan I wanted more. Even if it was just the Ouija Mummy her self grandstanding and gargling for a few minutes more.  Thank you for this silly movie, a much needed pick me up. I cant wait to watch this again in a group just to watch peoples reaction.
