Let’s call this an emergency belated Windmill Wednesday, everybody. WiiWare classics LostWinds and LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias are out on Steam! While I’ll admit the games are a bit short for the price they’re selling them for individually, the $14.99 bundle containing both games feels about right to me.

The game takes place in a mountainous region, not exactly conducive to lighthouses, but the game does not disappoint on the windmill front, and the background touches like waterwheels (which you can blow around with the wind! Did I mention you control the wind in this game?) and the relaxing soundtrack really appeal to me. Highly recommended. 

If you still have handy access to a machine where you could get the WiiWare version, it’s a lot of fun to play with a Wii remote to control the wind, but the game controls just as well with a mouse and keyboard, and I think the PC version is worth it for the upgrade to HD resolution. The games have also been available for some time on iOS, and while it looks quite nice on an iPad, the controls there aren’t as coherent as Wii or mouse controls are.
