1 Minute on Windows 2003 / Windows 7 Support
You may have seen news reports regarding Windows 7 support having ended. This is both correct and incorrect. Mainstream support for Windows 7 (Home, Pro, Ultimate & Enterprise) has stopped as of 13th January 2015. Do not worry! - Extended support for Windows 7 carries on until 14th January 2020.
Mainstream Support: Product changes and features maybe amended and updated to improve usability and performance, security updates are issued and released, Non-security related updates are released to fix bugs etc., complementary telephone support is available, you can call Microsoft for some assistance at no cost.
Extended Support: No further features or design alterations are added or changed, only security impacting updates are released. Any hotfixes or non-security updates are only available through premier chargeable support channels if at all. There is no free telephone support for the product any longer.
Something which does not appear to be in the mainstream news yet is that as of 14th July 2015 Extended Support for all versions of Windows 2003 Server stops. This means no available security updates or assistance from Microsoft in anyway. It will also mean 3rd party software producers will stop keeping it as a consideration for making sure their products work with it. If you have any Windows 2003 Servers I strongly recommend you speak with your IT Service provider or support team to have these replaced as soon as possible.
