Horse figure of the day: Windstone Editions #803-Jet Mother Unicorn – Jet Black
this week, my mom was finally able to set up her new curio cabinet and put part of her unicorn collection on display for the first time in 30 years! some of these are worth quite a bit of money nowadays.
you may also notice some of the Windstone Editions dragons :) she loves Windstone Editions!
incredible once-in-a-lifetime CURB FIND, a Windstone dragon in a free pile across the street! In my rural neighborhood!!!! You've no idea how badly I coveted these things as a teenager (I never stopped). The neighbors are heavy smokers so she has a smell--and the original paint job may have been less of a gold and more of a pearly ivory. Not bad looking for a nicotine patina, though. I'll clean her up as best I can and see if I can leach out some of the smell in a box of pine shavings. Thinking about naming her Sigmund.

And now for a bonus post! This is a male ki-rin from Windstone Editions. Sculpted by M. Peña, Windstone Editions are fantasy creatures cast in gypsum, a plaster-like material. They are hand painted (though you can get blank ones to paint yourself) and many, like this one, have metal accents. I believe his eyes are glass.
He was made sometime around the year 2000, but I got him only a couple of years ago, found for a mere $25 at a thrift store. If you're familiar at all with Windstone Editions, you'll know that's an exciting price. This one alone typically sells for around 150-300 dollars on the secondhand market.
He's got a few chips on his hooves, but for that price, well worth it. I may choose to repair the paint someday, but I'm nervous about it since the rest of his paint job is so lovely. I love the way his hair is swirly, and his big old eyes. I love the pearly scales. He's almost kind of rabbit-like, as well as deer- and horse-like.
There are two others of this "set", a female and a baby, but I have yet to add them to the collection. Windstone does make a paint-your-own version in a different pose, and I may end up grabbing one of those at some point, though I'm not sure I could do it justice. If you'd like to learn more or get your own of these awesome fantasy sculptures, their website is here.
