I just remembered that since it's now September 1st here, it's officially the start of the 2025-26 European Windstorm Season, so I went to check whether the Met Office has announced the storm names for this season and they posted them literally a minute after midnight

it's currently eerily calm outside. like, the trees aren't moving at all. it's very weird and surreal knowing that this is because we're right at the centre of a huge storm, surrounded by strong winds, and all that wind is spiraling towards the middle of the storm, but then in the middle it's just calm.

the clouds are moving slowly, and they're moving from northwest to southeast, rather than south southwest to north northeast like they were an hour or so ago

so it turns out the really strong wind today is like, the prequel to Storm Darragh. the actual storm arrives tomorrow and we're forecast to get 60mph gusts from it

also when we checked the forecast earlier it said we'd get 40mph wind gusts this evening but now it's up to 49mph so that's something. at least it's nowhere near as bad as some other parts of the country

so there's currently a windstorm that was meant to arrive overnight I think, and later we're meant to get like 57mph wind gusts but currently despite the weather forecast saying we should have 40mph gusts, it feels eerily quiet other than the rain, which looks pretty heavy but doesn't sound heavy?

we had a couple of weeks' worth of rainfall in one night and I think tomorrow we're meant to get about a month's worth over the course of the day but some places are getting way more

okay so the UK and Ireland are currently being hit by a windstorm called Storm Babet which is forecast to bring "unprecendented" amounts of rainfall and has led to red weather warnings being issued, but then I just saw this little bit of information about it and frankly I'm fascinated

honestly good for her suggesting her name and getting to actually have it used, but at the same time imagine deciding you want a storm named after you and the storm ends leads to "danger to life" warnings being issued
