It’s just something unsaid, unthought and just lying dormant inside; just wedged somewhere between his heart and his rib cage and thumps lethargically every so often. It’s a chill that never seems to go away.

She was sitting on her bed amidst her magic props; amidst the one thing she absolutely loved.
It was the little remnant of her past and her present; something that anchored her and became a part of her. Phoenix wasn’t sure she could untangle magic from who she was much less than he could. He didn’t want to either.

Hey lovely readers. The next installment is here! I hope you enjoy it and I hope not too many people were offended by me using *that* word in and as the title of my fic. In the process of finding a new word but didn’t want to delay the chapter any longer. Enjoy your read and remember: Stay soft but don’t be gentle.
“Oh sorry!” Yuri had been so focused on her phone that she didn’t realize she was walking straight into someone, causing her to drop her phone. The person she ran into quickly bent down to grab the phone for her and handed it to her.
“Now what’s a face like yours doing buried in a phone? It makes it harder for us guys to find you pretty girls.” The guy stated as he reached to touch her cheek.
Yuri quickly stepped back, startled that anyone, especially someone she had just literally run into, was being so bold. She didn’t recognize him. She did, however, recognize the two boys that had just sauntered up next to him.
“JB. Johnny.” Yuri acknowledged them with a simple nod.
“Well, allow me to introduce myself since you already know my friends here. The name’s Seungri. Lee Seungri. Now I think it would only be right to at least tell me your name. You did run into me after all.”
A bit hesitant at first, she finally responded, “Yuri. Chae Yuri. I’m going to get going my friends are waiting for me. Bye!” She maneuvered around the 3 and entered the lunch room.
Turning to JB and Johnny, Seungri said, “Tell me more about her.” And the trio walked out into the courtyard.
Yuri quickly started scanning the room for her “brothers”. Tilting her head and wrinkling her brow when she didn’t find them, she started towards their usual spot, thinking maybe they had got held up with something. She was suddenly startled when someone laid a hand on her shoulder, and she immediately balled her hands into fists at her side.
“Whoa! Chill, it’s just me!” Dowoon quickly took a step back, knowing that Yuri’s fight or flight response had been activated and he wasn’t quite too sure what she would do.
“Dowoon-ie,” Yuri breathed out in relief, “you know you can’t just go sneaking up on me like that.”
“We tried calling out to you but after a few attempts Wonpil remembered that you might as well be deaf, so I came to get you.” Dowoon replied defensively.
“Okay, first off, rude. And second, where are y’all sitting?”
“Follow me.”
Following Dowoon, Yuri made a mental note to try and be more aware of her surroundings. Looking to where Dowoon was taking her, she saw something she never expected. Wonpil was sitting with what her and Jimin had come to call the “cold brew crew”: Brian, Sungjin & Jae.
She hardly ever interacted with them but did have some classes with the boys. They were all quiet but were known to have gotten into some fights. They had a cold exterior, especially Brian, so that’s how she and Jimin got the name. Being as she kept a small circle, that was all she really knew about the boys.
“Yuri! You actually had time for lunch with us today.” Wonpil exclaimed, getting up from the table to give her a hug.
“Yeah, Jimin and I are going to work on yearbook stuff this afternoon at my place instead of during lunch. Hi, I’m Yuri.” She shyly introduced herself to the rest of the table as she took a seat.
“We have some classes together. I’m Sungjin,” the eldest held out his hand for a proper introduction, “this is Jae and this is Brian.”
“Nice to meet all of you. Now not to be rude but...why are we sitting here?” Yuri whispered, looking at Dowoon who had just taken a seat next to her.
“We may have ran into some trouble.” Wonpil replied, looking down at the table.
“There’s a new guy on campus. His name is Seungri. He tried to give these two a hard time, so we went to give them a hand.” Brian spoke up on behalf of the two boys, who both looked down.
“What?! I quite literally just ran into that guy right before coming in here. I didn’t like him. Then JB and Johnny walked up, at which point I knew I didn’t like him since he was hanging around with them. Are y’all okay? What did they do?”
Placing an arm around her shoulders to calm her, Wonpil reassured her, “It wasn’t anything major. Don’t stress about it. These three showed up and then the security guard so Seungri walked off. They invited us to sit with them and since it’s usually just us two we decided, why not? ”
She turned to the three boys, “Thank you for stepping in. That guy is a jerk. And these two are like family.”
“No biggie, we happened to be in the right place at the right time. Yo, you haven’t by any chance worked ahead and done this week’s chem homework have you? I— OW!”
Sungjin whacked Jae in the back of the head.
“Do your own homework. Me and Brian already help you so don’t go asking strangers for the answers. It’s rude.”
“Okay, so first and foremost, that hurt! Have you been working out or something dude what the heck. Second, we are not strangers. She introduced herself and said her name is Yuri. Which we all already knew ‘cause we have been going to the same school for years but whatevs. And last but not least, I’m trying to save hours that I’ll never get back from doing that chem homework. Why is that so wrong?”
Brian rolled his eyes for probably the thousandth time that day at Jae and just shook his head.
“Yuri, ignore him. And for the love of God don’t give him any help or answers to the chem homework. For that matter, to any homework. Ever.” Sungjin stated.
Yuri shook her head and replied, “Not even Wonpil and Dowoon get answers out of me, no way am I letting anyone else.”
“It’s true.” Dowoon said, “No matter how much we try to convince her to give us the answers, she never does. She just says that exact same thing. And you heard her; we are supposedly ‘like family’ to her.”
Shoving Dowoon, Yuri replied, “And it’s going to stay that way. You boys will thank me when you graduate.”
Leaning towards Wonpil, Jae asked, “It seems like she might push y’all’s buttons the way this one does mine.” He nodded his head toward Sungjin.
“And I’ve yet to find that dang mute button. I’m beginning to think it’s broken.” Sungjin quirked back.
Laughter erupted around the table and before they knew it lunch was over.
“Hey boys, want to walk me to class?” Yuri asked Dowoon and Wonpil.
“Sure, let’s go.” Wonpil replied.
Saying bye to the other boys, the three started off towards class.
“I’m glad y’all are okay and that they stepped in before Seungri did anything else. But let’s be careful with those three, too.” Yuri added.
“What do you mean, noona? They seemed nice. I mean yeah, they have a history but they seemed okay.” Dowoon stated.
“True but I mean, we don’t know much about them. They’ve gotten into fights before too. I’m not saying they’re bad, just to be careful. We don’t need any trouble, especially since it’s our senior year,” Yuri expressed. “There’s a reason Jimin and I call them the cold brew crew, you know. Brian hardly said anything. Just sat there basically glaring the whole time. It’s weird.”
“Yuri, don’t worry so much. We will be cautious. And especially if we have you looking out for us, you should know we will be okay.” Wonpil said, playfully shoving the girl.
Laughing, Yuri decided that he was right. She just cared so much about them. The boys dropped her off at class and went their separate ways.
Before leaving, she told them she would see them tomorrow because she would have to meet with Jimin this evening and for them to stay out of trouble.
hi if at all possible, can you not use the word r*tard? it’s very offensive to those with learning disabilities and it should be a word that is considered taboo
Hi anon! I am very sorry, I in no way meant for this to offend anybody 🥺. That being said I really would like to keep the (insert some name) in tinfoil as my title and will gladly accept another name that readers think is more suitable to fit the dialogue where it is said and the title. So readers I apologize for any offense I may have caused and am now accepting a suitable term as replacement cause I really do love my title and the dialogue where it is put in.
