“And if you see a wolf, BANG! All you have to do is shoot him in the middle of the eyes and you’ll have a new skin to make a cloak…”
The bar was full that night. Hunters and lumberjacks everywhere, in groups, drinking and discussing their works, trying to warm the coldness that came with the proximity of winter. Some voices were louder than others and it was possible to distinguish some laughs. But no voice was louder than Stifler Dennison’s voice, laughing as a drunken pig on a table in the middle of the bar.
Lily, the waitress of that night, was doing everything she could to avoid his table, taking the orders of all the others trying not to have to attend that annoying giant. Stifler was the worst kind of guy for her.
With his almost 6 feet, the blond guy was made of muscles, but as Lily's friends used to comment, his balls changed places with his brain, and he was unable to avoid stupid comments and attitudes when seeing a woman. So the last thing she wanted was to stop in the reach of his hands using that terribly short skirt the boss was forcing the girls to use "to make the bar a little more attractive", he said.
Fuck him! He was using her thighs to attract more lumberjacks to drink at his bar. That was what he was doing! That bastard, hiring girls with curvy bodies and feminine beautiful images like hers just to use them to increase the movement! But she needed the job...
Since her mother died, she was living by herself and without a job surely she would starve to death on the next winter. So the best she could do was get as much work she could get to avoid Stifler’s table and…
“Fuck” her voice sounded when she saw the pin of orders. "Com'on!" she said, looking around, seeing the two other girls working with her and her boss with crossed arms.
"You avoided his table the entire night. Go over there and do your job!" he said, leaving.
Lily looked at the other two waitresses with a frowned face. There was nothing but Stifler's table orders at the pin, like they had separated them for her.
"I thought we were friends!" she complained, but both of them looked at her with annoyed faces.
"We are friends, Lil. But you're leaving the worst for us!"
"We are not your employees and you could be tending at least one or two orders from him just to take it out of our backs!" they said, causing Lily to sigh, starting to prepare the tray with the fries that bastard asked.
Is not that their friends wasn't right about she being avoiding her part of Stifler's presence for the night. Is just...
"Oh look if it isn't my favorite ass!"
...she was his favorite. So things were always heavier for her.
He spent half of the night disturbing the other waitresses with stupid words. For her, there were that slaps in her thighs and ass she hated more than everything.
"Can you, please, stop touch-STIFLER!" she yelled when he pulled her to him after she placed the tray on the table, forcing her to sit on his lap.
"I missed you, baby girl. Why you didn't come to tend me tonight?" he said, breathing heavy in her neck, right under her earlobe.
"Oh great, he's drunk", she thought to herself, trying to get up from his lap, receiving a vigorous pull back in her arm.
"Stop it, Stifler! Let me go!" she complained, but in answer, he just rounded her waist with one of his large arms, pulling her to his body, letting her feel the hardness in the middle of his legs rubbing against her ass, causing her to whimper in despair, trying to push him and get up.
"The lady told you to let her go" a heavy male voice sounded hoarse and intense, calling everyone's attention to the bar, where the long-haired man was peacefully seated, drinking his ale since the beginning of the night.
Lily took the chance, getting up from the surprised Stifler's arms and straightening that God damn short skirt trying to cover her body a little more, taking some distance from Stifler's reach, causing him to giggle, turning his annoyed glare to the foreign man who dared to give him an order.
"Who the fuck are you to tell me what to do? By the way, who the fuck are you, man? You're not from my town; you came into my bar and want to tell me what to do with my girl?" Stifler said, coming closer to the man that didn't move a millimeter, not even when Stifler hit his cup, throwing it in the other side of the bar hall.
"I just told you what she said, since you seemed to be deaf." the man said, peacefully, looking straight to Stifler's eyes when completing his sentence, causing a general commotion "But now I can see you're just a drunken dumbass acting like more than the pathetic horny deer you are".
Stifler frowned.
Lily would have laughed if she wasn't so shamed and tense with the situation because she could bet Stiff took that ten seconds to understand that man was calling him mindless animal. However, as soon as Stifler understood the reason for everyone's locked laughs, he growled as an animal indeed, attacking the man like a furious deer separated from a mate.
The savagery of the strikes and fight scared the waitresses and the owner of the bar that gave up of his intent to stop the arguing, hiding with his employees behind the balcony while Stifler was trading punches and hard strikes with that strange man.
Somehow Lily could see his eyes never left her. That man was fighting Stiff without even looking at him and while all the other men at that bar were screaming cause Stifler seemed to be winning against the foreigner, Lily knew that man was holding himself to a defensive position, taking Stifler's attention and looking at her all the time, like waiting for something. At the same time, Lily noticed he wasn't really trying to hit back Stifler's strikes. They weren't trading punches. Stifler was punching the air around that man who seemed to know every single second when making a move to avoid the strike.
Stifler wasn't winning that fight.
That man was faking a fight to get his attention and Lily understood what he was doing when his eyes looked from her to the back door of the bar before coming back to her again, mutely indicating her to leave, safely, through an exit Stifler wouldn't notice she was leaving.
He was saving her and nothing else.
She needed that job, but she knew exactly what would happen... Stifler was one of the richest hunters from the city and her boss would probably obligate her to ask for sorry as she was the wrong one just to prevent him to stop coming spend his precious money there. She needed that job, but not enough to lick Stifler's balls for it.
She nodded to the stranger man, let go the heels she was using and picked up her bag in the hall, leaving through the back door, running to the other side of the block, not seeing when Stifler pushed that strange through the front door of the bar, screaming to the street out loud when the man walked away, like he was running and not just walking, completely ignoring the screaming pig he was fighting seconds ago.
"AND DON'T YOU EVER COME BACK HERE! These foreigners, thinking they are something like welcomed or anything like that... Now, where is my kitten? Hey, kitty kitty kitty..." he said, going into the bar.
Lily?
She was already walking her way back home, panting from the little run, looking back to every step she didn't know if fearing Stifler or concerned with that stranger when her body just hit something harder than her, not going to the ground because strong arms held her before she fell. Her eyes turned, scared, trying to see who she found in her way when her green orbs found that stranger in front of her. He helped her to straighten her position and so she let herself to take a better look at him.
A tall man, maybe as taller as Stifler himself, but a little minor, with a more defined musculature. She could seriously think he was training for strength and not appearance, but even then, he was attractive. A well-traced jawline and a bone structure that justified the sigh she left through her still opened mouth. As the cherry of the cake, a beautiful pair of dark eyes that seemed like two black holes in his light skin face, making hard to see the iris of his eyes, so dark they were.
"If he pulled me to his lap I would surely be there, happy!" she thought, but his voice woke her up from her daylight dream. "Are you okay? Did he'd hurt you?" he asked, reminding her from the bar and causing an internal question into Lily's mind: how the hell he went out the bar and found her so fast?
"I-I'm fine, I'm... How did you..."
"I saw you going home last night. Thought you would follow the same path" he answered faster than she could ask. "Don't worry about him, he'll not..."
"I'm not worried" It was her time to answer "Not about him, I mean. Thank you for the help, but now I'll have to find another job" she smiled and he smiled back.
And for a second, Lily saw herself mesmerized by the little curve in his lips. What was so strange about this guy that caught her that way? Everything around him was so attractive...
"Can I offer you company?" he said, again waking her up from that strange trance his presence and movements were throwing her into. "I'll not feel safe with that idiot walking around, so, can I make you company until you get home?"
Somehow that stupid attitude didn't sound idiot for Lily. Who, in their right state of mind would show a complete stranger the way to their own home where they live completely alone? But he didn't seem a threat for her. Instead of it, somehow, she was feeling safe by his side.
"Thank you." she said "It's very nice of you, Mr... Sorry, what's your name?" she asked with another smile, realizing only at this point that she didn't even know his name.
"The others call me Einar" he said, keeping that beautiful curve she couldn't avoid keeping looking.
But he said "others"...
"Oh, so you're not alone?" She said, starting to walk towards her home with the beautiful man by her side, one of his arms crossed in his back, his hand holding the elbow of the other arm while walking. She couldn't avoid thinking how flexible he was. "Oh god, stop thinking shit, Lily" she mentally reprehended herself while he was answering in a placid voice.
"Yeah. I have some friends with me" he said simply "We live in a..." a little pause, maybe searching for the right word to define his place "...village, near the woods."
"I never saw you here before." she continued, ignoring the mysterious pause. Somehow it was easy to let go the strange things about that guy. "I grew up here. I'm Lily, by the way" she presented herself but his smile told her what his words confirmed later.
"I know. I have been drinking in your bar for the last few nights, so I've heard your friends calling you." he said, extending the conversation with silly subjects about the bar and her old and for sure lost job through the entire walking.
Her house was near. "What a pity" she thought when his steps stopped near her front yard.
"I have a feeling I won’t find you at the bar next night, am I wrong?" he asked, still keeping that curved lips so attractive to her eyes.
"Probably picking up my things or drinking for the free night" she answered back, almost forcing an invitation. "C’mon, handsome, call me for a drink..." she thought, almost celebrating when he did exactly what she wanted.
"Let's take a drink together so, for your freedom from that place" he said.
Freedom... She wasn’t free. She was fucked.
But even then she smiled before a loud howl echoed from the trees around the town. She almost shivered. Wolves. They were everywhere, hunting the same deer the hunters were trying to catch.
But Einar looked at the woods and turned his face to her before she could say anything about the howl. "I have to go" he said, already starting to walk "See you tomorrow, at the bar" he confirmed, starting a fast walk that made Lily understand why it was so easy for him to go out of the bar and reach her on the way home: the man walked fast when alone... He vanished like fog at the first corner of the street, leaving her with that strange feeling that there was something really wrong with that strange gentleman. Another howl made Lily cut her thoughts and get into the house, locking everything to avoid intruders, humans, and canines, of course. No one wants to wake up with a wolf between the sheets, right?
--
At the streets covered of snow, Stifler was trying to straighten his stumbling drunk steps in his way home; his noisy voice complaining, cursing about the foreigner that made him to lose his night to anyone who wanted to hear - and for the ones who didn't want too.
"Fucking asshole! I should have fucked his face just to warrant he would never show that stupid mouth of his on my bar again... My bar... My fucking bar! MY FUCKING DAMN BAR, YOU ASSHOLE!"
"Go sleep, Stifler!" the annoyed voice of Satine, an old lady that lived near his house, echoed complaining from her window she closed just after her screaming to the drunken man at the street. But he only raised his middle finger to her, ignoring she wasn't there anymore to see, and yelled, ignoring she wasn't there anymore to hear.
"Fuck you, you stupid old bitch! Go fuck the damn worms that are waiting for your stewed body at the damn grave you should be sleeping in, fucking whore! Yeah... Fucking whore." his voice had lowered during the sentence.
There was a strange noise at the street corners calling his attention, making Stiff start looking around while walking. It was sounding like grunts.
"Willie you fucking bastard, you're fucking selling spoiled beer again" he complained, scratching his ears, trying to make the noise disappear from his surely disturbed hearing. But instead of disappearing, the noise became higher. Now he could distinguish the sound of growls and grunts, just like the wolves they were trying to frighten away from the hunting territory.
"Fucking beer. Now I'm hearing shit" Stiff barely spoke, scared, hushing his steps through the asphalt, trying to lie to himself that being drunk wasn't turning the task into something hard.
It was when he started to hear the barks. And the grunts became really loud, causing his breath to fail and his heart to skip a beat. "Fuck! Fucking shit! What the fuck is going on? uh? What the fuck?!" He started to yell to the night, looking around to the alleys, losing the first corner he should have taken to reach his safe home.
At the first turn around himself he saw nothing but black shadows sliding inside the alleys, but in the second turn, his eyes found a pair of glowing yellow eyes looking at him, catching his attention enough for him to miss a step and stumble, going straight to the ground, hitting his head against the asphalt, and bruising his eyebrow.
"Fuck! Fuck fuck fuck FUCK!" he yelled, touching the warm blood in his face. His fingers trembling in front of his eyes, stained in red. "What the fuck, man? What the damn fucking hell is this? What is fucking following me, dude?"
His voice was now sounding like it really was - thin and fragile - not the thickened tone he used just to feel himself bigger to the others. Stiff was really scared and his eyes looked around one more time just for him to yell when the pair of glowing eyes became two, and three... The growls were out loud now and the first wolf, a grey one, came from the shadows, walking slowly towards him. The white teeth covered in saliva, exposed while that wild creature was growling hungrily to him.
Another brown one came, barking. And a third one walked around him, closing all ways out but keep running forward.
Stifler's voice sounded now like a little child, crying and running as fast as his body allowed him to, missing the two other corners he could have turned, two other ways he could have taken to find his home he was seeking so desperately. The three wolves running after him, barking and growling, messing his directions and thoughts, causing him to cross the edge of the street, jumping the border fence, going inside the woods, believing the fence would surely hold the wolves away.
The only thing he was able to remember was his hunting cabin and the guns he had left there. Loaded guns. It would surely save his life!
The horrifying sounds of barking and growls had gone giving Stifler the sensation of safety and a new breathe of hope. He could still hear howls around, but they weren't as close as the growls. And the cabin wasn't so far. He smiled.
He would do it.
He would go inside that cabin, find his guns, go out and explode that fucking wolves' heads and tomorrow he would be carrying their bodies to the bar, and show everyone his guts and how he had killed an entire pack with his own hands, by himself.
"All alone!" he panted, laughing as a crazy, alone in the woods, running slower since his legs were charging the price of the acceleration on the border.
He stopped at the front yard of the cabin, leaning his body forward, hands over his knees, trying to control the panting back to a decent breathing. But there wasn't time to breathe decently...
Another loud growl called his attention and when he raised his eyes, slowly, the figure of a black wolf, bigger than the others, was looking at him. Enormous yellow eyes devouring his flesh before the teeth exposed, growling in a terrifying sound that petrified Stifler's body at the same position.
The other wolves he thought he had left behind came from the trees. He was surrounded by growls and barks now.
Behind the black wolf, the cabin caught Stifler's eyes. He was so close... Just a few more steps and he would be telling the story of the year at the bar next night. Now there would be a story...
And for the warm sensation between his legs, it would be probably the men arguing around if Stifler had peed in his pants before or after the first bite...
-----
Lily chose her best dress, the red one. And her most beautiful heels. She was feeling great when she crossed the doors of the bar, with her eyes on the balcony. Her peripheral vision attempted to catch any glances on her astonishing look. But this night, something at the subjects of the tables was more interesting than the waitress that all that bastards lumberjacks and hunters used to praise every night.
"Fucking assholes" she complained to herself, sure that it was the fact that her dress was under her knees and not almost showing her panties as that damn uniform somehow she was happy in delivering back to Willie.
But the handsome guy, Einar, oh he saw her. With that beautiful curve on his lips, he made all the other men's ignorance become nothing to Lily and she blushed looking at him. "Hello, handsome!" she said, smiling.
"You look great... Is this for me?" he asked, causing her to blush even more.
He invited her to sit by his side at the table where he was already drinking his ale and while he was taking the menu from the other table to her, she looked around, noticing Stifler's table empty.
"Strange" she commented and Einar looked at her "Stifler's table is never empty. Where is that bastard?"
Einar took the cup from the table to his mouth, drinking a sip to avoid a smile in front of her.
"I've heard he is missing" he said, his mouth still near his cup, "They said there were clothes torn and blood near his hunting cabin this morning."
"Well..." she sighed "It's terrifying but I can't say I'm really mourning him... He was a bastard! Does someone knows what happened?" she said, looking at the menu, distracted with her choices.
"They don't know precisely. Maybe he found a pack of wolves..."
Einar eyes just shined in yellow before his next sip.
Yeah. Maybe he found a pack of wolves...
