Writing Shop Talk asks 🫂- What was your inspiration for your WIP? 💥- What does your writing schedule look like?
(via @wintherlywords)
Thank you for the asks!!! Sorry it took me so long to get to them-
What was your inspiration for your WIP?
I'll just do Aubie since I think it's the uh. Most interesting background lmao. Most of my stories I just get inspiration randomly and we go from there. So anyway.
Short version: spite.
Long version: In the Spring semester of my Senior year of high school, a friend of mine got me into a game called Cookie Run. It's an endless runner gacha game with cute lil characters. At the time, there wasn't much of a plot to it beyond monthly events that were largely self-contained (it has since grown, to my understanding). I enjoyed it for a while, but I was presented with basically blank slate characters - so I started thinking up characters for them and stories and the like. Just little things, I didn't plan on doing anything with them.
And then something happened with She Who Must Not Be Named. I don't even remember what at this point. But it let to me thinking, "Damn. On top of all the atrocious things she's done, there's a part of me that is also just spiteful that the idea of a magic school will forever be connected to her." And then I went, "I could do it better."
At this point, I had fallen out of Cookie Run, but I still thought about my version of the characters and the like I had made, so I took them and set them in a magic school setting... and then struggled to come up with a plot. Eventually, I dropped it and forgot about it.
And then three years later (two years ago from the modern day), I suddenly remembered it, got brain blasted with the idea for the opening, and things have spiraled out of control from there. - What does your writing schedule look like?
I don't have one <3 I write when I can, where I can, how I can. I try to write every day, but I'm not always successful - I especially haven't been lately, as I've been stuck on some recent chapters and then also very busy at the same time. But I carry notebooks with me everywhere so I can always go there if I get in the groove! (I love handwriting uwu)
