Wipdate!

Well. It's been like three years since I've done one of these, hahaha, but I've been missing fandom life so I thought it'd be fun to share an update of where I'm sitting. Toddlers manage to take like 140% of your time and energy, even though they sleep a lot, so I've mostly just been parenting, but I've been getting the writing bug lately, so there's very slow progress, but progress nonetheless.

Basically, I have a list of fics I want to make sure I finish. They're the ones it would break my heart to look back on twenty years from now and realize I put all that time and those words into something that never got shared. I haven't been having new ideas very much, so I'm putting all my creative energy into things I've either promised to other people or to myself.

I'm not going to list everything I've posted since my last wipdate, since that was a looong time ago and you can always sort my works page chronologically! But here's the latest ones...

Bro Code -  This is one of my 2023 MTH fics Rented Family - I started this one in like 2019 and finally finished it. It's a no-powers Ults AU where Tony is dying of his (canon!) brain cancer and Steve is a security specialist/bodyguard who Tony hires to be around while he dies. Yay for finishing old wips!

Wips:

This wiplist is basically just going to be my list of "I'll be sad if I never finish them" fics I mentioned above. I have no plans to stop writing fic entirely, but I'm definitely slowing down, and I want to focus on the stuff that will feel really good to have done so I don't ever leave myself or you guys hanging!

1) Held edit (the chaptered repost) and Held Remix (at least S1). @ashes0909 and I are picking away at it, but between three kids, two jobs, and two timezones, it's slow af. But we'll get there.

2) My other 2023 MTH fic, older professor Tony and young flirty student Steve for @sabrecmc pod bid. It's maybe a third done.

3) My contribution to the Stony Dating Sim game from MTH 2024 (I'm doing Ults Tony as a love interest. If you want to know more, check out @stevetonydatingsim).

4) My Stony Twilight AU. I posted a snippet of it here a long time ago and I've been picking at it ever since. It's at 33k and probably about halfway done.

5) Fangbait 3. My Fangbait series was always intended to have three parts. Two are up already. The third was on hiatus for a long time, but I just abruptly wrote 80% of it last night, so once I get the sex scenes (and a title oh no) done, she'll be good to go!

6) Yet I Will Try the Last has been waiting for waaay too long for an update and I feel really bad about it. It was the one time I experimented with posting an unfinished WIP (mostly because it started as a oneshot and then I started adding to it) and I regretti spaghetti every day that I did that lol. I. Have. Not. Given. Up. I have the outline for the rest, I know what I want to do, I just need to do it.

7) Brooklyn is a canon divergence from right after Avengers 2012 where Stony travels on a modified quinjet together, cleaning up the chitauri weapon's market. It's maybe a third to a half done? Another one I started a loooong time ago and never got my steam back with, but I would really like to. I really like that one.

8) A Venom/Eddie fic from right after the first movie. It's not too long and it's probably also about halfway done, so I believe in myself. It's called Parasite.

9) A collab started a few years ago that I'm not going to out here in case my collab partner doesn't want to do it anymore, but we did a fair bit of it so I'd love to get it done.

Writing comes in little spurts, but I have to pick and choose between my hobbies now, so I just have less time and energy to spend on one thing. I've been trying to read more to fuel the words! I also have OG stuff I'm working on, but that's just as slow as the other stuff lol. I miss you guys! Hope y'all are doing well. (Happy Easter if you celebrate!)

WIP Update (WIPdate?): The Witcher King

Dandelion plucked a pheasant leg from his plate and wafted it threateningly in Aiden's direction. “You have a lot to learn about courts in the north. You scoff now, but think of the humiliation when all we have to offer at Geralt's side is wine, wheat and Metinnan silk. Culture, that is what we need to bring to those heathens. Culture.”

Geralt hummed thoughtfully. “They will have their own culture. We'll need to adapt to it.” Aiden nodded in agreement and the three of them lapsed into silence as they ate.

Indeed, Geralt had read widely for months. Knowledge was power, after all. But the more he read, the more unsettled he became by the stark contrast between the warm climes of his southern home and the frigid northern regions. They traded in the bizant, not the gulden. They worshipped Freya and the prophet Lebodia. Most of the official accounts had been dry and boorish, but Aiden had always been able to source texts that Geralt's tutors would blanch at. So Geralt's study of economics, faith and customs had been tempered with more exciting stories of prophets being eaten by dragons. Geralt had enjoyed one in particular, recounted by Addaria Bach, a dwarven musician from the Copparette, about how followers took Lebioda's remains from his sarcophagus during certain festivities to kiss them and, much like the dwarven poet, Geralt had been amused by the prospect of pious priests in silken robes kissing fossilised shit.

“What are you smiling at?” Dandelion asked around a mouthful of pheasant.

“Prophets and dragon dung,” Geralt replied blithely and Aiden grinned.

They saw the lazy evening hours away with inane conversation and a few songs on Dandelion's lute, before bedding down on their sleeping mats. The temperate was barmy and there was no sign of rain, so they had decided to sleep outside under the insect netting. Geralt stared at the glittering stars above his head and picked out the constellations one by one. He wondered whether the stars would look the same in the north, or whether they would be as alien to him as the currency and the faiths.

The crickets and crackling fires around the camp were soon accompanied by Dandelion's soft snores, and the camp quietened enough for Geralt to pick up on a conversation happening several metres away.

“Heard the beast's ruthless,” said one low voice. “Emotionless. Doesn't feel a thing. Only appetite he has is for the flesh, younger the better.”

Another soldier scoffed around his tankard. “Let's hope that Prince Geralt inherited that famous stamina of his great-granda Hugo then.” There was a round of raucous laughter, and then, “By the time that monster's finished with him, he won't be walking at all, let alone worrying about riding a horse.”

I'm meant to be working on Decembert and Geraskier stories, but my brain decided no. Instead, we've gone down a rabbit hole of lore and continued writing The Witcher King. Prince Geralt's on his way west to catch a boat from Cidaris to Pont Vanis in southern Kovir. He's doing a lot of introspection, worrying, you know, Geralt type things.

Lebodia's story is great. Not only was he worshipped by one of the last Manticore Witchers (Merten), but he feels a lot like the Continent's answer to Buddhism. Compared to the northern Pantheon (very Olympian/Nordic) and the Eternal Fire (very medieval Christianity, right down to the crusades), Lebodia promotes peaceful ways, simple wisdom and kindness. Literally, that's it. Here's a teaching:

"He who intends to walk the valley of darkness ought to bring a lantern with him. For he who sprains his ankle in the darkness will not walk far." –The Good Book; or, The Teachings of the Prophet Lebioda

He gets eaten by a dragon while trying to protect some villagers from it. Lebodia is known as the Great Beggar, and I guess this kind of reflects "higher society's" low regard for the religions and prophets of the peasantry, perhaps. But I like to think Lebodia's story would resonate with Geralt a whole lot. Kindness, practical wisdom, defending the innocent.

Now, Hugo of Rivia, my dearest boy. Hugo is distantly related to Meve or Reginald (the family trees are a little vague), but he is also Foltest's ancestor (which could potentially make Geralt related to Foltest, which... urgh, royal interbreeding). But Hugo! He got pegged by his wife so hard he couldn't ride a horse. Proof, I hear you cry.

Hugo of Rivia was the second Prince Consort of Bienvenu, queen of Temeria. Not much is known about him other than the fact that he fared much better than his predecessor, Ragbard, in the queen's bedchamber. Rumours were rampant that he had to work very hard to fulfill the expectations of the queen - hence the ever prying eyes and his rather famous reluctance for riding horses. (Witcher Wiki)

He's also reported to have died of "sexual exhaustion" trying to give the queen a second child, although his efforts were "heroic". There are many a rude song written about it and I'm sure Dandelion knows them all. As for the soldiers in the earlier excerpt commenting about Hugo's stamina, I'll leave the interpretation of their intent down to the reader. Either way, I want to slowly shed more light on Geralt's past and why his reputation at home (and his self esteem) is so very low.

Since I’ve never done one of these, the “previously published” is my entire catalog, but here’s a few things I’m working on right now!  Untitled Stony Political Soulmate AU: Commissioned by @aspiring-academic through their donations to fight the wildfires in Australia (that was this year, too, can you BELIEVE) - the fic will focus on Steve the Congressman and Tony the scientist working together to end the migrant crisis at the U.S. border - while also getting their second chance on love. Posting starts August 3. Untitled Stuckony A/B/O Sex Worker AU: Commissioned by @corsets-and-cardigans also for wildfire donations, this one has established alpha/alpha WinterIron and omega Steve. Posting Now!  Past, Present, and Future (?) - MTH 2019 adjacent fic that features de-aged Avengers and parental figures Stucky with guest appearances by MJ, Peter, and Pepper helping to make sure the tiny super heroes stay alive.  Steve-Tony Games Fluff Fills - A whole host of one-shots that put these two in a lot of universes.  These Times have been interesting for my productivity. I’ve gone through a few weeks where I’ve written upwards of 15k and a few where I stared at blinking cursors. I am exceptionally grateful for fandom in general, though - y’all have gotten me through a lot of lonely moments! 

@festiveferret and I also made the INCREDIBLE decision to start a podcast about two weeks before everyone went inside and stopped listening to podcasts, but we’re 11 episodes in and not planning on stopping anytime soon. Give a listen @podonthesuit.

Tyler Vance has always loved working at The Little Sparrow Inn, nestled between two mountain peaks. She enjoys meeting new people, and the view outside the windows is to die for. She may not like doing the business side now that she’s inherited the bed-and-breakfast, but there is no place she’d rather be than right here in the mountains.

Sun & Scrimmage has been Rory Lake’s home-away-from-home for ten years. Every year, she’s gone to the summer camp for fun, sun, and football. This year isn’t any different - except for how it is.

Now cabin leader and team co-captain, she has more responsibilities than before. Everything changes further when she’s introduced to Niall Horan, and while competition has always been a vital ingredient to the camp, the rivalry that starts between Rory and Niall is far from friendly. That’s fine, though - she doesn’t mind terribly.

Rory has rules for her life, but sometimes, rules are meant to be broken.

Veda Mitchell has never had a good relationship with anyone in her family except for her grandfather. When he’s diagnosed with terminal cancer, Veda immediately and without hesitation moves in to take on the role of sole caregiver. He’s done so much for her throughout her life. Caring for him, making his life easier before it ends, is the least she can do to repay him.

The routine she follows is steadfast, set in stone, and it brings her comfort. Meeting Niall wasn’t in the plans, but Veda finds herself yearning for his bright, infectious smile and calming presence when everything goes wrong. And wrong it goes.

I still love this fic, but damn, it’s like... too similar to the second movie in some ways, loooool (it’s basically a love letter to @willidothefandango)

4) I have a Twilight AU that’s a fucking BLAST to write, and I’m looking forward to getting some other things out of the way so I can work on it more.

5) Working on some old WIPS, some more stuff for Bday Bingo 2020. Trying to clean up the old hutch before the New Year.

6) Working on a secret sexy collab!

I did Nano this year and won (yay!) so Nov has mostly been writing and not much editing, but Dec will be about editing and getting things posted. I’m hoping to start 2022 with my obligations/promised stuff done or mostly done so I can fly with a little more freeform next year! Thanks for reading <3

Wips:

1) I have two MTH fics, a werewolf!Bucky + veterinarian!Tony winteriron fic, and the Band AU fic I posted about a while ago. Both will be around 30-40k. Slow going, but making progress! The MTH creator party helped a lot so I expect to get a ton done at the next one too.

2) I have a collab with @thirstinart that’s about halfway done. It’s a 1920s, speakeasy, jazz and fedoras kinda thingy and it’s going to have amazing art in it!!

3) I have a regency romance thingy that’s over halfway done, but giving me some trouble now. Ugh, group scenes. Why.

4) I have a collab with @elwenyere that’s an academic/prof!Tony thingy with a twist. Very excited for that one! It’s still in its early stages.

5) I still have my Pacific Rim AU, but it hasn’t progressed much. Also on the middle burner is an Ults fic and The Mechanic.

I’m going through a transitional phase at work, and by summer, my work life will be very different. I expect it’ll allow for more writing, in the end, but we’ll have to see! It’s using my brain in new ways, so there’s an adjustment period for sure.

I’m also VERY distracted right now, because the lovely woman who rescued Frisk when she was a baby and raised her for two years has a half-brother of Frisk’s that she would love for us to adopt and that we would love to adopt. He was adopted out at the same time she took Frisk in, but they didn’t care for him well and she took him back. He’s the same age, but half as big, adorable, same face but floppy ears instead of pointed. I described his body type as “tsum tsum” to MamaFerret who doesn’t actually know what tsums are, but you guys do. I’m waiting to hear on logistics because transport is HARD right now, but if we have to wait, we have to wait, and we will wait for him as long as it takes. It’s hard to focus on anything else rn, though, because I’m waiting to hear what kind of timeline it’s going to be, but I’m just like GIVE ME MY SONNNN!!!!

1) I have two MTH fics, a werewolf!Bucky + veterinarian!Tony winteriron fic, and the Band AU fic I posted about a while ago. Both will be around 30-40k. Slow going, but making progress! Second MTH party helped a lot! I hope the werewolf one will be ready in a month or two.

2) My collab with @thirstinart is soooo close to done!! It’s a 1920s, speakeasy, jazz and fedoras kinda thingy and it’s going to have amazing art in it!!

3) My collab with @elwenyere that’s an academic/prof!Tony thingy with a twist is still front and centre too. We’re making excellent progress on it and we’re so excited to share it!

4) Lots of little things, including 6 remaining bingo squares, one of which is a collab! *rubs paws together*

Lots and lots of gardening right now, but it’s about time to start planting up and then I won’t be panic-prepping vegetable beds anymore :D
