I've seen a lot of posts on tumblr, especially in rape culture circles, explaining that because they know why certain behaviors happen, they're natural and even desirable. as if understanding something that causes harm means it no longer causes harm. I actually think the only way to be meaningfully against something is to understand why it happens. not everyone against something is on a thoughtless crusade, but unfortunately lots of people are. especially americans and christians in general. rape will probably always be with us and will inevitably shape our behaviors, especially the behaviors of vulnerable groups until we dismantle patriarchal power structures. but simultaneously, I don't think there's room for rape culture in restorative justice, and I don't think we should carve it out.

I do nawt care if the scrawny cartoon girl has a cool powerful fighting move. there's a reason she's idealized to have a thin petite body with no consequences. her depiction is harming women and is the result of a creator learning it's okay to harm women

it's the big 2026. smart phones are expensive but still nearly every american has access to one. millions of Black americans are sending millions of texts every day. and yet if you look real closely, no phone seems to be able to understand AAVE. no emoji popular in the vocabulary of the poor has a quirky little custom animation in google messages. words that have become abbreviated in the common tongue far before phones had screens still autocorrect to completely different words. it just amazes me how anti-Black fuckin' everything is here, every day. holy shit

I wish more people would understand that cloth can be and is a tool. for protection. for cleanliness. for carrying. for condensing. it is a tool so important it has shaped (and contained !) history. it has preserved bodies and started wars. how can you not love fabric after realizing all it has done for us ???
