I dunno if this is the right place but I have a theory on how Gabe-Will happened. Based on the 700000 posts of the dev program and IG lurking, I’ve pieced together that Gabe and Paul Fisher were little together like how Will-Leno were. He’s the guy that hits on Will on Instagram during his high school years and apparently they sleep in the same bed. In the 1st year of the program, those two groups don’t really seem to fuck with each other. Gabe is always with other kids in the content. But, according to some historians on here, Ryan played up on the 18 and under team on his 17 and under year so he had exposure to a different group of kids. But, in some of the content, Leno seems closer with Fisher and Oliver Moore. In Leno’s mic’d videos, Gabe is just standing there and Leno, Fisher and Moore seem to be closest and Gabe doesn’t engage them. Did Gabe and Will come together because Leno stole Fisher? We always assume Will dumped Leno for other friends but what if Leno is the true cheater and dumper?

So the thing about Will I've noticed in looking through his photos through the years, including a lot from his time with Team USA in the USNTDP and World Juniors, is that he actually keeps his circle pretty small.

This might be a surprising statement and contrasts with what we've heard about him being a socialite and described as a "frat president" within the Sharks organization, but here me out. His immediate circle.

He's obvious he's a popular, well-liked guy and it seems people tend to flock to him, like moths to a flame. So it makes sense some are surprised about Will being described as quiet in characterization I've seen come up a couple times, especially with the USNTDP (and recently with Eric Pohlkamp, though you could derive some potential theories from this interview). Will is a self-professed (over)thinker, and we've observed a couple times where he tactically keeps things close to the vest, like book club or details about Mack in the Olympics, for example. It's possible these attributes could be characterized as being quiet.

What I think it is, though, is that while Will forms acquaintanceships and friendships very easily, it's his solid, core group of friends he really nurtures and confides in. Throughout pictures from his time with Team USA, there are occasional pictures of him having nice moments with other teammates, but you can tell the ones he gravitates towards. Gabe. Zeev. Leno. Will Vote.

Of course anyone does this with their closest friends, but Will in particular. If he's friends with someone, that's his person. He's searching for them in a crowd of teammates. He wants to sit together on the bench. He wants to celly together. He wants to stand together in line ups and jump together in group mobs and take nice pictures next to each other when they win together. He wants to warm up with the same person and create meaning and stability together.

When he's friends with you, that's something serious to him. He keeps up those friendships. Puts work in, buts thought and care and effort in. I thinks that's why we see so many of his friends stick around long term and be so down for Will, because he's that way for them.

I don't say that to say Leno isn't that way, especially with that Will, Gabe, Voter, and Zeev bunch and their friends that later join them at BC. But by contrast, he is photographed having lots of different interactions with different people. That's not to say Will doesn't socialize amongst his other teammates, but whereas Leno might walk in a room and want to chat around, I see Will more as chatting his way through the crowd toward his best friend and then melding together all night. He might socialize with others from there, but it will likely be at least in close proximity to his core group he's locked in for the evening.

In the context of Will and Leno specifically, the word is that Will and Gabe were super close and left Leno on the outs a lot, but that is speculation. Will and Gabe were super close, however, described by Pohlkamp with unfortunate and homophobic terminology in that interview but insinuating they were joined at the hip. I think Will was likely "quiet" because he'd recess into the comfort and acceptance of his friendship with Gabe in what may have been a terse environment.

And as for Paul Fischer, I wouldn't say Leno stole him. He is pictured a lot with all three of the future BC Line and in different combinations thereof. He was also seen thirsting over Will's Instagram a couple years, but that's another story. 😄

We undoubtedly still see Will's "lucky few" favorites concept amongst the Sharks today with him gravitating toward Toffoli, Wennberg, Dellandrea, our dearly departed Eklund, and, of course, Mack in the last couple years. But I think his social butterfly persona has allowed to blossom within the Sharks locker room due to feeling safe and accepted, which is a beautiful thing.
