Who hasn't recited the Wizard's Oath, hoping to feel the universe bending closer to listen?
At last and again, another Wizard’s Oath is complete! All that is left is to add a background! This one was from the side-series, the Feline Wizards. I will admit, I’ve had so much fun doing this, The designs under the large letter have a small bit to do with the series they’re attached to. Once again, thank you forevermore, @DDuane!
I wanted to do this Oath justice. It has gotten me through so much, and has shaped me so nicely, that I want to give it the best treatment I can, and give its author @dduane a piece of art that properly shows my thanks for all of her inspiration. I hope to ever improve. Thank you again.
The Ami’s Oath
A Group version of the Oath based on the Wizard’s Oath from the Young Wizard’s books.
(It is rare that a whole group shares an Oath in common, but it does happen.)
~
Enjolras: In Love's Name,
All: and for Love's sake, we swear...
Combeferre: to employ those Arts and Sciences which are it's gift in it's service.
Courfeyrac: Embracing all usages by which we may reveal it in the world, no matter how great or trivial they may seem.
Jehan: To nuture growth, and ease pain. Or at least to embrace that pain so it can transform itself in us.
Bahorel: To fight fiercely to preserve what lives and grows well in it's own way.
Feuilly: And to change no object or creature against it's will unless its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are threatened. No matter how foreign it may be to us.
Musichetta: To these ends, and in the practice of my Art.
Bossuet: I will put aside fear for courage.
Joly: and death for life.
Grantaire: ...when it is right to do so. ;)
All: Looking towards L'avenir - the heart of things that will be, where all people sing as one and where our sundered world lies whole.
Enjolras: Until our very end.
An entry in my commonplace book today
In Life's name, and for Life's sake, I assert that I will employ the Art which is Its gift in Life's service alone. I will guard growth and ease pain. I will fight to preserve what grows and lives well in its own way: nor will I change any creature unless its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are threatened. To these ends, in the practice of my Art, I will ever put aside fear for courage, and death for life, when it is fitting to do so - looking always toward the Heart of Time, where all our sundered times are one, and all our myriad worlds lie whole, in That from Which they proceded.
Diane Duane. My favorite version of the Wizard's Oath from her Young Wizards series
Midnight Oath recitation
Thinking about Young Wizards again
So I wrote a draft of my recension of the Oath. Probably this will change at some point.
The Story of the Worlds is myriad. I will tell my story the truest I can, and to the best of my ability give voice to those whose words have been taken or silenced. I will help build access for those who would read or listen to more stories. I will listen to the stories of others and help them weave their own thread into the larger story in brighter colors or bolder notes that others may see and hear it. I will not erase a story, but I may set one aside that it shall not drown or over-write others'. If Silence threatens, I will raise my voice in song and add to the harmony that shields against it, for as long as my life and strength allow.
This book series was an extremely formative piece of my personal morality.
