I was walking into the library late at night, needing to deliver a pizza, when I saw you sitting there. Looking down at your laptop, with your hood covering most of your face and a dark mood around you.
You sat alone, so I decided to go over to you and gave you a bit company. We talked for a bit, and you seemed to become a bit happier. When it neared the end of my shift I told you that I had to go and that I’d be gone over the weekend, but I’d love to see you again. You just smiled and wished me a good few days.
Over the weekend I was at my grandma’s home. I was helping her around the house and just spent some quality time with her.
When I came back on Monday, I walked by a restaurant on my way home. I could see your laptop on one of the tables outside. I was excited to see you again. Even though we only talked once, I got attached to you.
But when I walked in I couldn’t see you. The restaurant was full to the brim, I thought that maybe that was the reason I couldn’t seem to find you. I asked one of the employees about ‘the guy whose laptop stood outside’. His reply was “Chris?, I don’t know. I haven’t seen him today”.
Disappointed I walked back out, determined to find you. My first thought was the library. Running through the city, I neared the building. With a smile I started to look for you, but I couldn’t find you there either.
Suddenly I had a flash of genius. Rushing back to the restaurant, getting soaked by sudden rain, I had a big grin on my lips.
Soaking wet I walked into the building, walking up to a table with three people. Two adults and a girl in my age. I smiled at her and told her it was nice to see her again.
After that I walked up the staircase and waited in the first floor. I only had to wait a short while, before she came upstairs, not even waiting before she hugged me.
She smiled “You recognized me” Laughing I replied “Of course” Your smile widened before you hugged me again.
You told me you lived above the restaurant and pulled me with you into your apartment and straight into your room. Your walls were plastered in posters of rock bands, it was relatively dark. But one picture got my attention. It was a drawing of your old self, how I first met you. I was black and white, besides your fingernails. They were painted in the colors of the rainbow, similar how I had painted mine that night.
Next to the picture, in a scribbled handwriting, stood ‘you liked me’
I came up behind you and wrapped you into a big hug.
And look at us now. Years later and we are standing at the altar, about to become wife and wife. And I couldn’t love you more.
