tea was clenched to her chest while she took in the sight of the menorah, one candle lit in the dimly lit room. it both warmed her and saddened her, thinking of all of the things she’d lost -- the struggles she’s had and overcame. hanukkah was a time spent with family, but she had none left. her heart shattered repeatedly, and she was so sure she could feel their eyes on her.
wanda dropped her chin and turned, leaving the candles lit and unattended.

“It’s not meant to make it easier.” Her words are murmured as her eyes are closed and hands work on reloading the rifle at the desk in front of her. The Outlands are waiting for them--- which means danger. Nothing easy or simple about it. Her eyes open and the pupils stutter and focus on the task at hand ( not looking at the girl speaking to her ). “You’ll probably die. Soft.”

The object in her hand is not unfamiliar. Shai stares for a moment at it, then reaches out to quickly grab it from her--- unaware that the quick snatching motion might hurt the girl. Instantly, she locks her gaze onto it while the nanites search the database and the shift in pitches signal that they’ve found something. It takes but a millisecond for her to know what it is and when the information is displayed to her, she makes a small hum of acknowledgement.
“Processing chip. Upgrade for you. Obsolete for me.” She flicks it back to the girl and crosses her arms back over her chest and turns her gaze to the horizon. Radiation incoming.
