DEWeezy Project

So for the first time the other day, I saw this commercial for something called the DEWeezy Project. I must have missed the intro of the commercial because I first understood that it was something with Weezy (Lil Wayne) and this amazing idea to let students be a part of the making of a commercial.

I continued watching, very intrigued, to find out that it is all in the hands of the students. They come up with the concept, design the idea, and jump right in production to make their proposed commercial come to life.

I later came to find at the end of the commercial/pitch, that this is all being backed by Mountain Dew. Therefore, the project's name is pronounced "Dew-Weezy". Anyways, I am so excited to find out more about this project and I started to look around. The video below is different from the commercial I saw but it is used as the intro to the webisodes and is just a great way for you to get acquainted to this creative project that is supporting young students to create something real. Enjoy.

Prayer Vigil Monday (Tonight) at 6pm

Mayor Lantigua and local clergy will be hosting a prayer vigil at Lawrence City Hall on Monday December 17th at 6pm to offer our support and sympathy for the victims of the horrific tragedy that took place in Newtown, CT.

Cannot possibly single one out ... but here are some tips / advice ... These are not your typical answers...

For the love of your own life, don’t smoke. If you're already smoking. Quit. The excuse that work stress made you does it is not worth it.

Get exercise to be part of your daily routine.

Travel. Seriously. As much as you can. Especially to conferences.

Food/Beverages: Learn, experiment, try out, taste all different types of foods. You eat 3 times a day if not more. Everyone on Earth follows the same routine, get to know food and you can break the ice in so many situations. Besides, it’s very tasty!

Cooking: Learn it. It’s fun. You will get to enjoy food more and the company that comes with it.

Learn about Finances: Even if it might be boring, or not applicable immediately to you, learn about finances. To make money, you need to understand money, unless you luck out (which very few people do).

Start saving: Get into the habit of tucking a few Dollars every week. Try to build up savings for a rainy day.

Invest in property: As early as you can. Property in the long run, will always give you a profit.

Self-Pity: It will eat you up. Don't feed it. Cannot stress this enough.

Be Happy in whatever you do. If you're not, why push yourself through it (be it life, work, personal relationships, hobbies, etc.)

Read: Read as much as you can, especially History and People. So many things will make sense to you.

Love the Outdoors: The more you are out and away from your desk, the greater the chance of enjoying life and meeting up with people (accidentally and/or by choice).

Dress/Attire: Learn to dress well. It pays back in multiples in life.

Frugality. Learn it early enough in life. You'll thank yourself later on in life.

Management: Learn and read up as much as you can about being a Manager, Management Techniques, etc. Even if they may not be applicable to you right away.

Last but not the least, Deliver on Your Word. For your word is worth more than your weight in gold. For you would be known by this trait.

FYI: Donation Drop-Off Location Update

Note from Merrimack College: "During Christmas Break, the Post Office will work to receive and sort deliveries of mail and packages from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 27 and Thursday, January 3. Those departments or individuals requiring either delivery service or outgoing mail service should contact the Post Office at: [email protected] or by phone on those dates at ext. 5939."

Therefore, since the Merrimack College Post Office (who has been serving as the drop-off location for those donating clothes to WPTE) will be closed for the majority of the college's holiday break, we will be working to determine an alternative drop-off location in the meantime. This is still in the works, so when we determine where and when it will be available, we will share this with you, and hope you share it with others who would like to donate as well.

Overcome the Stereotypes

How can women get past these stereotypes and rise to leadership roles? Try these tips:

Be an individual so people view you first, not your gender.

Remember: You don't need to take on "male" interests or stereotypical behavior.

Seek out networking opportunities with other women on their way to the top.

Look to role models. If it's been done before, you can do it too.

Find the leadership style that works for you, be it the classically female "leading from the center" style, the classically male individualistic style or somewhere in between.

Let your company know that your personal goals are separate from your work ones -- just like your coworkers.

Seek your real allies. Gender does not always predict the level of support you'll receive.
