If you're getting swirl marks when sanding with a random orbit sander you can usually fix it with one of these three things. 1. The sander isn't making good contact. Make sure the sander isn't wobbling, skipping, or jumping. 2. You're being too aggressive. Don't push down on the sander. Hold it steady but let the paper do the work. You can also try slow the speed of the sander. 3. Your paper is done. When using a router bit this size remember to turn the speed down on the router. Also, expect sawdust to end up everywhere even with dust collection. Take multiple passes and try to have only a small amount of material for the final pass so you don't end up with burning. You'll get tear out on the end grain so do both ends before you do the sides so they will end up being cleaned up. When you haven't removed enough material for your workpiece to ride on the bearing try to keep one edge in contact with the fence to give you better control. So, I try to use my body to help guide the workpiece. Just make sure you're next to it, not behind it. A tip for gluing up panels: cut 2 lengths of pvc (any diameter) and prop them up on blocks cut from a 2X4, then lay down some craft paper for drips. The dry fit of the computer stand looks pretty good. There are a couple of tiny gaps which should close up nicely when I use clamps for the final assembly. Just adding some profiles and some sanding tomorrow. I'm short by a few 10mm dominoes but they should be here Tuesday so I think I'll tape off the joints and do some pre-finishing so it'll be done once it's assembled. I'm going to be using Minwax wipe on poly for this one. Arm-R-Seal has a bit better clarity but I haven't gotten my technique down quite yet so I don't want to leave streaks since this piece isn't for me.
