My classes do not start until Monday but yesterday we did visit the Irish Museum and the Book of Kells and I feel as if those two attractions merit some mention. The Book of Kells and the Museum can both be related to the Vikings! In one of my earlier posts, I mentioned how the Vikings were prevalent in Ireland. The Book of Kells was found during a Viking raid and then during our time at the museum, my history professor helped explain to us why Irish artwork can be found in Norway, from the Vikings.
This was actually my second time seeing the Book of Kells, and it still amazes me how intricate and beautiful the artwork and even the calligraphic text in the Books are. The people really took the effort to make something worth what they believed in.
On a non academic note, my roommate and I are excitedly getting lost and adventuring our way around Dublin and having a great time doing it! So far, I am exjoying my time here and I get excited about when I see places or hear about what I have read about in preparing for my trip/classes during my stay. I cannot wait until the classes start and everything gets officially underway.
