I'd rather stay here. #workingclassblues #workworkwork #ridgewoodqueens (at Ridgewood, Queens)
Broke my ankle at work, spend half my time finding out how the insurance company will try to scam me of what few rights I have under worker's comp. Found out I could've been retrained to be a computer tech and have it covered, but the governor axed the program last year.
So I'm on a couch for a month and a half, the pain meds I have are Oxycontin, which was fast tracked into approval by the FDA, the same ones that one of my friends got addicted to. The same company that makes Oxycontin also makes Suboxin, which is the drug you use when you check into rehab for Oxycontin, meaning they profit off of both widespread addiction and profit again when you try to get clean. The same company also makes the meds that (also after being fast tracked) gave my mother a permanent heart murmer.
When I recover I have to go back to work at the same job or repay a month and a half's worth of insurance premiums. If they've replaced me by then, I'll have to be a janitor or a receptionist at the same pay.
Also I'm going to get arthritis in this ankle, and there's nothing i can do about it, even if it costs me work in the future since every job I do is physical, I can't sue for lost wages.
