It's time to announce another charity organization that I'm supporting! My 2nd charity is pretty well known. Raise your hand if you've heard of the Boys & Girls Club! I've chosen their Metro Denver location because it hits home; they have 22 locations in this area, with 15 of those being school-based. They have 7 locations in Aurora, my home town, where many children are often left on their own because their parent(s) need to work double-time just to provide for their families. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about our childhood and how differently we grew up. Since my friend kept herself occupied with sports while she was in high school, she avoided the drug scene. On the other hand, I wasn't involved in any extra-curricular activities, and I ended up experimenting at a very young age. If I had kept up with other out-of-school activities or even got into sports, I would've been too busy to even think about drugs, therefore, less likely to drop out of high school. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't regret a single decision I've made. Not to be cliché, but I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't made the decisions I did. Like all life stories, other experiences in my childhood affected my choices, which is another example of why the Club is such a fantastic option for young children & teens. They help them cope with hardships or events that may come up in their lives by teaching & providing excellent leadership examples by organizing hundreds of projects giving them hands-on experience with being active members in their community. This not only builds character, but it also builds self-confidence, which is imperative when making good decisions.
