She really should have gone to the corner store and gotten something she could keep in the motel room fridge. Tamimah sighed. All she wanted was an apple or banana, maybe one of those travel sized little boxes of cereal and a carton of milk. Well, it was another day she'd have to go to a diner. At least she still had money for that.
She was halfway out the door when she felt a presence suddenly materialize behind her. Not just any presence, either, an angel's Grace! She spun and was shocked to see the state of the angel who'd appeared in her room. He was huddled in the corner, and though she couldn't see quite where he was hurt other than a couple cuts on his cheek and mouth, or to what extent, she could feel how weak his Grace was. She closed the door and hurried to cross to where the angel was and crouch in front of him, concern creasing her brow.
"Are you all right, brother?" she asked, speaking softly. She used the term in the same way the angels did for each other. They weren't siblings by blood, but by cause.
