Day 4 of ✨ @anythinggoe‘s 31 Days of Figure Skating ✨
Today: A Skating Program That Makes You Cry
Shoma Uno / Turandot (2.0) / World Championships 2018
This programme doesn’t usually make me cry but this particular performance of it does, very much so. Worlds 2018 was to date the only figure skating competition I attended in person and trust me, I was beyond emotional because of that alone already. And then I found out Shoma was injured and his short was... not great, unfortunately. So while I wan’t consciously hoping that my favourite skater would get a medal, there must have been something buried deeply in my heart that still had faith. I think I started crying when he went down for the first time (gif 2) and I believe it’s important to acknowledge that this performance was quite full of falls and stumbles. But by God, Shoma persevered and gave it his all and it paid off so, so much. When he executed the 3AEu3F (gif 3) I was most definitely sobbing, but so, so happy that I was there in Milan to see this performance. I re-watch it whenever I need a reminder to put all my energy into the things I care about and to not give up.
... And yes, I definitely cried preparing this post. (I also can’t listen to Nessun Dorma without tearing up anymore and it’s a problem since I really do like listening to opera.)
