        an outdoor meeting, an address to the people with a wide smile. so oblivious to the serpent of death that slowly coiled, awaiting the PERFECT moment to strike. 

        he stands far from the area where the crowd gathered, a figure as still as a statue. a ghost in the dim light of day, sunlight coated by gray clouds. he is lost in the din, his presence unnoticed as people spoke. a perfect opportunity. now all he could do is wait for the correct time.

The alcohol soaked swab burns against the cut under his eye, and it takes all of Jesse’s willpower not to flinch or hiss. The Blackwatch Commander’s voice isn’t even angry, it’s just exhausted. Of course, some self deprecating part of him thinks. He’s just looking for an excuse to finally get rid of me.

“You’ve been here for almost four months, when is the stupid fighting going to stop? You’re not in Deadlock anymore, you should know better.”

“Know better,” Jesse mocks, smacking the man’s hand away. “Y’all don’t fuckin’ know me. Didja think I was jus’ gonna fall in line when y’all killed the only family I had left? ‘Specially when those fucks in Overwatch seem’da think I’m gonna take the shit they say like a dog?”

Reyes looks almost surprised by the outburst, and the silent anger in his face that follows deflates McCree almost instantly. The other man breathes and retrieves a bandage from the small first aid kit at his side, resuming his work.
