#Repost @wellreadblackgirl (with @report.for.insta) ... The inaugural Well-Read Black Girl (WRBG) Festival occurred on September 9, 2017. I’m extra nostalgic because it’s our anniversary this month 💕 The entire experience could be summed up with the following words: community-powered, thought-provoking, and simply magical. Women made their journey to Brooklyn for a full day of camaraderie & inspiration. I found myself in awe of ALL the authors who said yes to my invitation to join the original #WRBGFest lineup. Women that I greatly admire -- writers like #MaritaGolden & @Tayari Jones who shared their best selves with us on stage. Yet before the festival happened, before electric energy filled each panel session, I had to ask myself the following questions: 'Who are we servicing? What is our mission?’ As we gear up for our 3rd festival in November, I'm learning how to better answer that question every day. We support Black girls, women and non-binary writers who are looking for themselves on the page - looking to center their own narratives. #TeamWRBG is on this journey with you. We're writing alongside you, and finding our footing in publishing too. We're dreaming big and learning hard lessons along the way. Trust me, it ain’t easyyyy. One thing is for sure, we will always aim to amplify & uplift Black voices in publishing and beyond. We hope you'll join us in November! Tickets will go on sale Friday, September 13th 🙌🏾 Confirmed panelists include @jacqueline_woodson, @acevedowrites, #SaidiyaHartman, @dr_digifeminist, @rachel.cargle, @nicstone, @brownbookworm, and more! More festival announcements coming throughout the month of September 📖Watch this space!
