Community Connection And Silent Writing / Artist Workshop this week and next on Zoom with Film Courage

We are looking to bring writers and creatives together for community connection and a silent writing group session / artist session.

We have 4 sessions planned for the upcoming dates.

The beginning and focus for the first hour of this online event will be on guided community connection.

This is an opportunity to have meaningful connections and a fellowship with other writers / artists.

The second hour is dedicated to a silent group writing session.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve lost access to much of the community I’ve relied on as a writer. My husband has profound long COVID—I don’t want to risk bringing anything back that might further compromise his health. Where once I used to meet up with other writers so we could all work in the same space, now I mostly work by myself. I’m content to be cautious, but I’ve craved that sense of surprise, of acting in a way that feels counterintuitive to common sense. I’ve craved company when I’m in pursuit of the delight and mystery and discovery that writing provides. Another favorite writer of mine, Howard Waldrop, once made a distinction between nighttime logic and daytime logic in fiction. Daytime logic stories are grounded in everyday rules and everyday order, whereas nighttime logic stories are uncanny. They turn our sense of the world upside down. To go out and write a letter to the moon, under the moon, as part of a coven of writers, was to explicitly open up a door to strangeness and possibility and nighttime logic. I’m going to do it again, when the moon is full. Maybe you, too, might wish to welcome strangeness into your writing. Perhaps you might even find a coven of your own. Maybe you, too, might write by the light of the moon.

Hello, people of Tumblr!

I've been having sort of a hard time finding a fanfiction writer's community. I have all this questions and things I'd like to share and I don't know with who to do it with.

I wonder if there's a group out there for fanfic writers like myself with whom I could chat and discuss prompts, writing styles, ask questions, etc.

If anyone reading this post can give me some help I'd really appreciate it ☺️🥰🌈

Writing Group Part II

Okay, so like... early this year I (and @cadyfinnwrites) started a writing group with some people and I did it via tumblr. And it’s been like super fun, so I thought I’d toss out another post and see if we could get some more people.

Requirements (I know this sounds obnoxious but LIKE!!)

Must be over 18. And no, there’s not anything explicit, but the youngest person now is 20 and I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting a child in that position

You need to be able to commit to reading a couple chapters every week

Have enough written so that we can actively engage with you and your writing

Download discord for bi-weekly writer chats

Have enough time in your schedule (most weeks) for Tuesday and Saturday night discussions

Upload your writing to gdocs and provide access to us so that we can read and comment

Be nice!!!

Information

This is not a crit group specifically, if you want crit, ask for it, but some of the members just want a space to share their writing

All work is uploaded in a folder of google docs and as we read everyone’s work, we leave comments on the things we like (or crit, if it’s been requested)

Once a week, we meet to discuss general writer topics that are pretty much on the fly, but we talk all throughout the week for advice, life, fandom, books, etc.

Currently, we work on a rotation where every week we focus on a single person’s writing, that Saturday, we’ll discuss what we liked about it and they’ll get the opportunity to ask questions (this could change if we get more people)

We currently have five active participants and one general participant who is currently on hiatus 

My goal for this is to create a space for a group of writers to share their writing really before they step into the world of crit so they can get more comfortable with sharing, and also, who doesn’t like to have an audience for the things they write? We try to talk about ships, we fangirl, and mostly we’re just a group of friends who love writing.

So I’m hoping to get a few more people involved, so if you’re interested, just shoot me a message on tumblr and let me know!
