I grew up reading historical accounts of adventure and gallantry and elegance, and it took me out of my suburban life. I could be a pirate, a lady, a queen - but the thing was, some people really were. And finding out who they were, the context of how they lived, and how they still affect us today? That was one of the coolest things I’d ever experienced.
