I figured I haven’t wrote a personal post in a while. I figured I might as well, I have somethings to talk about.
Last year wasn’t a total wash. Not one of my better years, but at least I’m not homeless and I’m writing a lot more than I used to.
Last year I worked on a pilot for a series called Warp’d. It took me closer to a year and a half because of all the re-writing I did. I just wasn’t happy with it. But I did learn a lot about outlining, structure, story progression in one year than I did in all of my time in a classroom.
Don’t get me wrong, I used everything I learned there to guide me, but its best to learn by doing as they say. I’m hoping everything I learned translates to speed.
I’ll tell you one thing kids, outlining is really really key. It gets you through writers block.
This year’s goal is three full screenplays. I have one in the pipe I’m outlining now. I’m also going to revisit the vampire one I wrote a while back. It was this break-up story I did. A librarian’s girlfriend dumps him so she could be a vampire, and the librarian has the chance to kill her new lover and to cure her.
When I started it I was just angry and hurt. But I think I have I have enough clarity through time and distance and I can do a major overhaul and get this thing to be really good.
Finally I want to go back into Warp’d. I was thinking that I could extend the pilot to a two hour movie. I’m so in love with the characters and I can’t let them go. When I put it down in September it felt like I just lost someone.
I really miss talking to Jane-O, Patrick, and C.
Finally the big thing I’m planning to do is to rebuild my apartment; half of it anyway. I realized not too long ago that I have a big one bedroom for one person. I never have girls up here (not for a lack of trying) and I barely invite people up at all.
I also need to kill off the distractions; Xbox, TV, etc. So I’m going to convert half of my apartment into a writer’s studio (or a writer’s cave as I’m calling it). I’m lucky in the fact that I live in Brooklyn and I have all this space. I’m not really using a lot of it, and if I am I could definitely pare-down a bit.
Best of all it would be really cool to say “I have a studio in Brooklyn, no not a studio apartment a studio.”
