AFFIRMATION: 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸.⁣ ⁣ _________⁣ ⁣ When I was six years old, my mom told me that she knew me better than I knew myself. I remember my internal rebellion to the idea, the way I spoke words to myself that I didn’t say out loud to her: “NO YOU DON’T.”⁣ ⁣ I think sometimes that her attempt to tell me my own motivations set a theme for my life. I have never really been one to roll over and do (or be) what I’m told.⁣ ⁣ As I reached the last chapters in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵’𝘴 𝘞𝘢𝘺 in July, I found the affirmation above, and it has come up over and over for me since. ⁣ ⁣ I grew up surrounded by people who wanted to define my life, my limitations, my knowledge, and my understanding, but as I have moved into my own process of creating and being human in a very dehumanizing 2020, I’ve had to learn how to take charge of my own definitions.⁣ ⁣ No one else knows what I have lived, and no one else has had the experiences that I have had. Therefore, no one else can tell me how to interpret my own life or existence. ⁣ ⁣ This, I am realizing, is what *I* control, even in chaos: I can own MY life, MY identity, and MY ideals, and I can choose to make room in my world for others to do the same. ⁣ ⁣ Your story is your story, and you know what you know.
