Let me fall
When does it all become too much? How much more needs to be added? When will I crack under the pressure? When do i get to know what it feels like to fall? What doesn't kill me makes me stronger. That's what they say, and for the most part, I believe it. And I am stronger because of everything I've gone through and everything I'm going through. But it doesn't feel right. A person can't constantly get stronger. You need to learn to pick yourself up when you fall, but what if you never get the chance to do that? What if somehow you always skip that step? You don't fall, you just adjust, learn, understand, and become better. Stronger. What if you never allow yourself to do the stupid thing, the wrong thing, the mistake. What do you really learn from that? You know its bad, you know you shouldn't, so you don't. But there is this little aching, creeping at the back of your mind, asking if the only reason you're not doing those things is perhaps, not because you don't want to, not because you know you should not, but because you are scared to do them. You are scared to make the mistakes yourself and learn from your own. Yet by looking to others and watching their problems unravel, their mistakes come to life, you know you should not do what they have done. You see it. You hear it. You understand it. But you do not feel it. And it is a hollow notion to you. And it means nothing. And you have to take that nothingness and manifest it into something to convince yourself not to do it. And then you believe you shouldn't, but never completely. Never fully. There is always doubt because you did not go through it. It did not happen to you. And watching something happen to someone else and feeling something happening that's very personal to you will never be the same. And it can't be. And that doubt kills you, because you can do nothing to take it away without making the initial mistake that you apparently, so desperately, want to avoid. So it is there, and it takes everything you have to ignore it. To play it safe. To do the right thing. Because you know that it will pay off in the end, and you know everything will be okay. Its guaranteed. So you decide to learn, to understand, and to become better through other people's misfortunes and mistakes. And it is the most empty feeling in the world. And it leaves you second guessing yourself, asking if it would have been the right thing to have done the wrong thing. Because you've never done it before, and when each new opportunity arrives to do so, you always opt out, and do what you know you should do. And you wonder if you'll always do this and how you'll ever legitimately feel anything if you do. So you worry. And your heart aches for things you've never even done. And you don't know who you are. But you're worried you'll lose yourself if you do the things you know you should not. And the irony in it all is you don't even know what you'd be losing, because you don't know who you are. All you know is the person you do not want to be. And you will become that person if you do all the wrong things, all the things you are not supposed to do, but who will you become if you never let yourself do anything wrong at all? Will it always feel so empty? Will you ever know who you are?
