Peel Session TX 21/07/1998 is an EP by Boards of Canada, featuring the tracks played on their 21 July 1998 Peel Session broadcast on BBC Radio 1.

It was originally released on 11 January 1999 as a 12" and CD by Warp Records, with catalogue numbers WAP114 and WAP114CD, respectively.

The radio broadcast contained an additional track, "XYZ", which was originally included on the EP, but soon removed due to sample licensing issues, meaning that original copies of the CD containing "XYZ" are extremely rare.

In September 2019, Warp Records announced that the EP would be re-released on 15 November 2019 to celebrate the record label's 30th anniversary. The re-release features "XYZ", which was also uploaded to YouTube alongside the announcement.

Boards of Canada’s secret weapon could be an AM, FM or Shortwave transmitter connected to a length of radiating cable with an audio cable parallel or twisted with it. The audio cable picks up the leaky feed from the radio transmitter and is connected to a recording device.

This to me feels like the answer. When using a shortwave or AM radio, sometimes the adjacent channels bleed into the frequency you’re tuned to depending on atmospheric conditions.

With this setup, you could have so many different sounds because of all the variables in the transmission, reception, placement of the cables, voltages, resonances in the room, radio wave reflection, type of space (result different in a metal shed compared to a open field with all else same), just to name the obvious.
