The formula of Jongdae’s radio show had changed over the years. When he had started, he’d play mostly music and then he’d be giving news about bands and upcoming concerts. Eventually, he started talking a little bit more and voicing opinions and interacting with his ‘public’ (aka mostly fellow university students). He enjoyed covering serious topics, but also liked to keep things fun by playing embarrassing songs that were sure to bring back memories.
He was excited for today’s show because he had gotten the idea for it at the beginning of the week and had asked people to send him submissions and he had received a lot so he had enough content to make a great show. Someone told him he could go in so he stood up and walked over to his desk chair and put on his headphones before bringing the mic closer. He waited for the signal and then greeted his listeners.
”Good afternoon everyone! Thank you for tuning in again today, you’re listening to No-Brainer and I’m your favorite host, Kim Jongdae. Today is International Women’s Day and before some guys out there start groaning about it, I’d like to remind them that it’s important to appreciate the women in your life. I know there are probably some who would be in deep trouble if their mother wasn’t around to help them. And if it’s not a mother, it’s a sister, a grandma, an aunt, a friend maybe, a teacher…With that said, I wanted to do something special for the women in our lives and take the opportunity on this very special day, to celebrate them. So I asked you all to send nice words about your favorite women and the response has been phenomenal! I will be reading some of these messages throughout the show. Now let’s start with some music and we’ll read the first message in a few minutes.”
He turned off his microphone and started the first song (run the world by Beyoncé), which was followed by another (bad girls by M.I.A.) and to complete the trio of songs, he played salute by little mix. After that, he turned on his microphone and welcomed back his listeners before picking the first message to read. He had also asked people to send a song they would like to dedicate along with their message.
”Alright, to begin today’s special segment, I would like to dedicate a song to a friend of mine. She’s a very strong and very charismatic girl which is easy to see when she’s on the ice. I’d say she’s the queen of the skating rink, but the other girls might get jealous so I’ll just say that for me, she’s the queen of the ice. She’s friendly and fun to be around, but this queen doesn’t seem to realize that there are a lot of boys falling for her! Not that I can blame them. I feel bad for all the broken hearts though. So, Kim Yoohyeon, in the name of all the boys whose hearts you unknowingly broke, this song is for you!”
He turns off his microphone again and press play. The studio fills with “Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton and Jongdae starts chuckling into his sleeve. He sure hopes that Yoohyeon is listening.
