Sometimes I forget Ender is a millionaire

I'm getting sick and TIRED of Orson Scott Card's Bio-essentialist bullshit in Xenocide. Ignoring everything wrong with the concept itself and just focusing on it's role in the book- It's so out of character for Valentine and Ender to not question gender roles at all and state bullshit about "female and male reproductive strategies." And how a women's job is to "get protection of the most stable males, nonviolent males..." (419, Xenocide). In Speaker for the Dead Ender says that "We question all our beliefs, except for the ones we truly believe in, and those we never think to question." This seems to be the case for Card.

And yes, I understand there is a theme in this book about reproduction- with the pequenino's and also with Ender's lack of biological children (which goes round around to the the reoccurring idea that having children is one's life purpose ugh)- but this viewpoint is written as fact- something to placate Planter- and something for Ender to come to terms with, not to question. It's so jarring for these characters who are the pinnacle of open thinking to also whole heartedly believe that men and women have specific assigned traits and purposes.

I’m reading Xenocide for the first time and I have thoughts

aight so I’m gonna be. Like. Predicting things here? I love this series and I’ve never read Xenocide so I’m going to be live-tweeting as I listen to the audiobooks. If the mutuals don’t want to see a flood of this post on their dash by all means feel free to mute it there will be spoilers.

hey does anyone remember the ender's game series. like. the rest of the books after the first one. absolute fever dream of a series.

i will say, from what i remember, i actually do quite like speaker for the dead, the second book - it's super interesting in its own right, but it's still /weird/. the type of weird i'd tentatively say i like, but definitely bizarre.

but then the next book, xenocide, is just the most insane book ever. there's cloning, there's a supercomputer who's in love with a protagonist, there's government-infused OCD, theres some really uh interesting implications about a group of aliens who decided not to be devout colonized catholics, theres a whole lot of stuff.

i stopped at children of the mind because i just got tired of keeping up with it lol. ender and his wife became nuns, some other shit happened idk

not suprised to find out the author sucks, there are definitely some problematic elements in his books, but i can't really hate them because they're too much of an acid trip. you'd really have to read them to get what i mean, xenocide in particular.

but i was just curious to see if anyone else has read these books and has opinions on them, i'd love to hear a discussion about it
