Yo! You don't got to answer this if you don't want to, but would be interested to hear any headcanons or ideas you got of the Sailor Brothers! Cause i love them so much and would really like to see others' ideas on them! Also correct me if wrong, but pretty sure you headcanon one of them is more feminine? Would really like to hear about that too!
OHHH thanks for asking!! :D I like fleshing out the rest of Big Green a lot and I have had quite a few ideas for the Sailor Bros specifically :}c
Firstly, I should reintroduce them individually as I'll be using their names to differentiate them. Their names are based on their Water Margin counterparts, and are:
- Ruan Xiao'er, or Ruan the Second (二)
- Ruan Xiaowu, or Ruan the Fifth (五)
- Ruan Xiaoqi, or Ruan the Seventh (七)
(And yes, you're right about me headcanoning one of them as fem! I'll elaborate on that but when you see me refer to them as the Sailor Sibs instead, that's why!)
As their names imply, Xiao'er is the eldest sibling overall whilst Xiaoqi is the youngest in the trio/also overall. While this is important to remember when I talk about their dynamic soon, I should say that this "age difference" may not technically matter as they're all three twins. Considering their numbers though, you could interpret this as them being part of a set of *sextuplets* (holy moly).
But their official Hero 108 Taco Bell card also calls them triplets despite the numbers attached to their names and uniforms?? So... 😭
When I draw the sibs I like to differentiate them by hairstyle. Xiao'er maintains the same hairstyle in the show while the other two get hairstyles that match their personalities :}c
Most heroes at Big Green had a hard time telling them apart for a long time because of their appearance, their voices sounding the same, and their ability to work as a monolith + finish each others' sentences. They are also quite busy with navy work and like to keep to themselves most the time. It's easier that way! But when one of them steps out of line, or their rhythm is broken, the differences are *staggering.* Here's some short bios for them all :]c
XIAO'ER (he/him): Although he's the oldest sibling only by a few seconds, Xiao'er lives up to the title proudly. He takes up the role of the unofficial "leader" of the siblings: making quick decisions on the battlefield, managing the tasks at the Navy Station, and starting most of their combined sentences. Xiao'er is the most talkative of the three without a doubt, but just because he's the most talkative doesn't mean he's the most friendly! Xiao'er is easy to irritate and unafraid to back talk anyone he feels has slighted him or his siblings. He has a big attitude for a little guy, but towards his siblings, he can be very encouraging!
XIAOWU (he/him): Xiaowu is the most nonchalant of the three siblings. He is best described as "along for the ride," whether that "ride" is a serious mission or a silly side quest. While Xiao'er is often recognized for his agitated demeanor, Xiaowu is most easily distinguished by his bluntness. He generally lacks any filter and says exactly what's on his mind regardless of the feelings of those around him. Xiaowu isn't any less immune to trouble than his brother, but his carefree attitude often serves as a strong anchor for his more high-strung siblings.
XIAOQI (they/she): Of all three of the siblings, Xiaoqi is the most shy. Whilst their brothers may talk freely amongst each other, they are the most reluctant to speak, often only offering their thoughts when asked to do so. Xiaoqi is just as capable as her brothers when it comes to battle, but her anxiety causes her to stumble when she's by herself. Perhaps it's the fear of getting hurt or the fear of how others perceive her that holds her back? Regardless of their anxiety, Xiaoqi longs to make closer connections with other heroes in Big Green. Hopefully their protective brothers will allow them to!
Some extra bullet points about the Sailor Siblings (many about Xiaoqi, as they're my favorite):
- The sibs work with Lady Green sometimes! She rarely ever visits Big Green (she's stationed somewhere off-base), but that doesn't mean she isn't apart of the Navy. The sibs are the heroes she sees the most from Big Green, and they very much enjoy talking to her :]
- When Yan Ching allied with Big Green, he began working alongside Lady Green and the sibs too!
- Lady Green was one of the sib's collective crushes at one point in time—especially Xiaoqi's, before they had realized they were transfem. She eventually did confess to LG so she didn't have to bear the weight of holding it in anymore, and they had a very good conversation afterward. LG was very kind and gentle, and she let Xiaoqi talk their feelings out the entire conversation. Xiaoqi realized by the end that they didn't have a crush on LG, but that they actually wished to be seen the same way others see LG. They left that conversation feeling confused, but like they reached a sense of... clarity. Xiaoqi began experimenting with their presentation shortly after that ♡
- Xiaoqi was very nervous to tell her brothers about questioning her identity, despite the fact they talk about everything, but they were very supportive of her when she eventually did. Xiao'er cheered them up about it afterward by saying that "Sailor Sibs has a better ring to it than Sailor Brothers does, anyway!"
- Xiao'er and Xiaowu prefer to work with First Squad over Second Squad. The first couple of missions with Second Squad didn't go well, and they have had a negative impression of them ever since—even if future missions have gone just fine.
- Despite this, the Sailor Sibs work less with First Squad and more with Second Squad as time goes on. This is largely because Lin Chung has had many instances of near drowning (this is kinda canon btw this happens 5 times but this isn't the post for that lol), so he's considered very high-risk.
- Xiaoqi felt indifferent about Second Squad at first, although she was intimidated by them. This was until an incident during a mission resulted in the two groups becoming separated. This led to her working with Hurricane Lee—a warrior they were previously frightened by—to regroup with their groups. By the end of the mission, they got to know each other a little + Xiaoqi learned he isn't so scary after all! They start to go out of their way to say hi to him after that mission, and Hurricane enjoys entertaining her :}
- Xiaoqi starts to crush on Hurricane eventually. He isn't aware of it at first—Archer says it's quite obvious she likes him, actually 🤓☝️—but he isn't disappointed when he finds out. In fact, he thinks they're really cute and endearing... the two start to date eventually 💚❤️
