Thumbnail experimentation
So recently, I’m experimenting with my thumbnail style, though I definitely haven’t touched a good part of GIMP 2, as shown by this 1st attempt...
Attempt #1
Honestly, what’s with that broken curve, should’ve trashed it ngl
The Inspiration
This “curve” I’m trying to recreate really is just like the one on the new United livery, shown here
Probably the title was too long, and I just thought of wrapping the text, completely ignoring my concept...
Attempt #2
So I didn’t “practice” per se, just adjusted the paths tool with a bit more effort. And this was the outcome...
This time, other then that weird bend, and the curves being a tad too sharp, it’s much closer to my concept. So I’d say this wasn’t too bad.
Attempt #3
Now I thought it’ll be a great idea to add a border, just because I thought it looks cool, I still do... But this border might as well be non-existent. Also, there seemed to be a coloring issue for the curve border, you can see some bits of white there.
Fortunately, I have since found a way of fixing that, so the next attempts have that fixed.
But I forgot the channel logo... Why oh why?
Attempt #4
Again, the outer border felt non-existent. A new issue with this and the next attempt was that the original screenshot was too dark. So in both attempts, I ramped up the saturation... But not by raising the saturation, I added a layer of soft light...
Yeah, you’re not dealing with an average GIMP user...
Attempt #5
Other than the video title that may or may not trigger SJWs, this time I have thickened the border. I should really just stick to brighter original screenshots, dark screenshots kinda falls into r/mildlyinfuriating (oh wait this isn’t Reddit, *clears throat*) #mildlyinfuriating
I think I’m just about there with the curve... Now sooner or later, I’ll need a template, wasting 15 minutes fixing the path curve is gonna cut my efficiency, especially Toram videos when I have to start from scratch to uploading a 15-40 video within 3 hours, plus 1 hour for redundancy.
I should start posting here more often, just to keep track of my own progression. So, hopefully I remember to post something next month lol
