Pls explain the angst in the Giorno/Haruno and Josuke, I'm begging you I'm so curious and also I love the art, it's beautiful and perfect
There are some pretty obvious symbolism (if you squint haha), first of all I purposefully chose their younger version to draw because that’s where Giorno’s life was at worst.
In this piece, you can see there’s a huge difference between Giorno and Josuke’s outfit style. Giorno’s outfit is based on manga when he was still Haruno and I like the idea that they’re in neutral colours. That themselves are a reference to how unremarkable his childhood was because he had to go through abuse and bullying growing up, in contrast, Josuke’s is very fashionable for someone his age and he wears bright colours and also pretty expensive stuff. Based on that, I want it to reflect how much Josuke is loved by his mother and he loves her too in return.
Second is the cotton candy, even tho Josuke is already chewing on a gum, I haven’t been to a carnival in a long time but I love cotton candies. As sweet as it is, it’s one of my greatest joys at a carnival, and perhaps especially for children too. So this hints that Josuke may have seen Giorno at the carnival and noticed that he’s not happy with his life so he bought a cotton candy to cheer him up. Oh and because I love seeing confident Josuke, the chewing gum gesture is him being casual at helping people.
The whole place should be crowded but I ran out of time to put them in and also it would be too crowded when printed so in the end I just leave it blank and put simple background in it.
To push my bullshitting further haha, think of the empty spaces and surreal background colours as an alternate universe or just a form of ideal reality coming from Giorno’s mind when he was still Haruno. So this reality serves as a ‘what if’ because irl Josuke and Giorno might not meet and even be of the same age.
Aaaand that’s about it, I totally didn’t expect this to be an essay lol. Hope it doesn’t sound too cheesy.
