Bringing back my Epic Gravestones series after visiting the foreign missionary cemetery in Korea (Yanghwajin 양화진). Chapter One.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated! I got busy with classwork and some trips I went on, but I will do my best to push out a few posts in the next week. 

Two weeks I went to Yanghwajin, the foreign missionary cemetery with my missions mentor. This was a really interesting experience because I didn’t know much about the history of Christianity in Korea, and had never been to cemetery in Korea. I learned Yanghwajin was originally set aside as a piece of land for foreigners to be buried in because in the past foreigners were not allowed to be buried within the city limits. I’m not going to go into all the history of the place here because I would probably get some facts wrong, but it is easy to look up. 

Yonsei University and Ewha Women’s University were both founded by Christian missionaries in Korea. I didn’t know about this until the tour guide told us, and I found it pretty surprising. He also explained that part of the reason for the spread of Hangul, the written Korean language was due largely to the translation of the Bible into Korean. Once the Bible was translated, the language itself spread as well as people wanted to read. We had some time to read the stories of the missionaries journeys, and I was really astounded at the love for Korea and the persistence of these people despite the constant persecution. Korea is second only to the United States in sending Christian missionaries abroad, which is surprising considering the population size. It made me think a lot about our perceptions as Americans about missions abroad.

On an unrelated note, it was beautiful day when we went to the cemetery, and I loved being outside - these days the weather is pretty much perfect as the dust hasn’t been too bad for the past two weeks.

Yanghwajin Band

For those who are Yanghwajin fans and didn’t know what they are doing now, here a few thing I found. 

Dohyung and Kyungjun are in JANNABI

Woobin is in a korean-japanese pop-group(?) called CHINGU

Yongin is in a band called HLIN

And for Jaemin... I really don’t know what is he doing -_-

i dont even know what's up with yanghwajin band because ive seen a few things of them doing stuff in japan or whatever and someone told me, and i saw online, that they arent really doing anything with any korean companies

i really have no idea what they are doing or if they are still a thing

BUT EVEN SO

i will forever love them even though they never made an official debut... but i listened to their covers even before they sang the song for city hunter and i just wish they were recognized more their talents ^^

i would totally be their promoter person if they asked.. set up youtube and took HQ videos of their performances... lol
