Have you played THE MAGICAL LAND OF YELD ?
By Nick Smith and Jake Richmond
A game about kids dealing with growing up while trying to escape a magical world!
In Yeld you play as kids from our world who passed through a magical door to another world, before it locked behind them! Take on heroic jobs, learn new abilities, and switch jobs to mix-and-match all different kinds of special powers while hunting down the Evil Vampire Prince Dragul's Hunters of Yeld to claim the keys to escape back home! Every day matters, because the world changes as seasons pass, holidays and birthdays are celebrated, and your characters age- and when you turn 13, you'll become a monster and be trapped in Yeld forever! Though, being a monster makes you even more powerful- maybe if you can defeat the Prince himself there might be hope yet?
Take turns GMing, grow your characters, and explore to see what kind of stories you and your friends can tell in Yeld!
have you played ?
Yes I have played it
No but I've read it
No but I've heard of it
Never heard of it
Goblins with Satellites: The Magical Land of Yeld with Maia [S4L2]
In this week's episode, we chat with Maia about tracking the passage of time within a campaign, how GMing changes your persective on the game, and the challenges of playing coming-of-age narratives at a table of adults. Maia is part of the team behind the Magical Land of Yeld TTRPG system, and this ended up being a really thoughtful conversation about designing and playing a game that feels very different from the classical fantasy TTRPG.
This season, we're experimenting with shorter conversations about how people play games. We heard from the Yeld team (briefly!) at the Dragonflight gaming convention earlier this season, and we're really grateful to dive deeper into the system with Maia this week.

It's wild to me that they're able to squeeze three of the classic spyrers, using only two poses, onto a single sprue while simultaneously preserving so much of the character of the original designs but here we are.
Not sure that I'm as impressed by the lateral move away from idle rich thrill killers slumming it downhive where their victims won't be missed, to some kind of suburban safari xenobeast hunting rite of passage for the crotchfruit of House Helmawr.
If it strikes you as problematic that the nobility should hunt the underclass for sport, congratulations, you've successfully intuited the surface-level themes. It's okay for the fictitious bad people to do the fictitious bad thing, it doesn't mean you're endorsing the act. That's what made it subversive.
Had the opportunity to take a look at Jake and Nick’s new book, looks really amazing. They came out so good. I don’t know how to play the game yet but I’m really loving all of the art and comics. You should definitely pick up a copy once they’re available for sale. #cute #comics #yeld #rpgs #rpg https://www.instagram.com/p/BqXx4wehhtn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=15bgmbcab211

Hi. My name is J. My brother Nick and I make an excellent all-ages TTRPG called The Magical Land of Yeld. This month we're offering a special sale on three great Yeld items, with 50% of sales doing directly to the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition! Check out the sale here!
This special sale supports the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition. PIRC fights for immigrant justice in our home of Portland, Oregon with rapid response, advocacy, and organizing. They're a great local organization, and we're excited to support them.
Here's how this sale works: - 50% of the money from your purchase of sale items below goes to PIRC. So if you spend $100, they'll get $50 of it. - We're offering free US shipping on any order from our store of $90 or more. You'll notice that's the cost of our hardcover rulebook + our PDF bundle. So get both! You can add other non-sale items from our store to your order to pad out for shipping, if you want. - Our friend and Yeld's Executive Producer, Sally Hsu, has pledged to personally match our donation out of her own pocket. Thanks, Sally! So for every dollar this sale raises, Sally will also donate $1 to PIRC! - We'll publish our donation total once the sale ends on March 1st. - You can find out more about PIRC and the amazing work they do here. Please feel free to just donate directly to them!
