As Yeonjun walked down the hall back stage, he could literally hear his own heart beating over all the music and noise coming from outside. They just finished a showcase. Yeonjun, being a perfectionist, gave his best. He didn't take risks. He didn't have regrets. Except one. He fondly remembered all the years he spent with you as he ran to his dressing room.
One
"Y/N let's just skip the class no one will notice" he said. "Can you shut up and do your homework? I literally gave you mine to copy, you disgraceful brat." you said. The giggles that he broke into were music to your ears reminding just how much you love your best friend. But he didn't know.
Two
You two were in the school cafeteria, sitting in one corner. You ate your lunch quietly as yeonjun talked to this other girl. Honestly, you didn't mind. You were used to it. He was Choi Yeonjun after all. Suddenly you heard someone calling your name. You turned around and saw your classmate there. You were paired up with him for this stupid economics project. He was a nice guy, fun to be around. As you discussed the topics and laughed, you didn't notice the way yeonjun looked at you. Slight hurt and jealousy visible in his eyes. He tried to reassure himself but he couldn't help but feel that way. This feeling reminding him just how much he loved his best friend. But you didn't know.
Three
"Y/N...I- i got in" he whispered while looking down at his phone. You tore your eyes away from the laptop screen to see him. The second you made eye contact, you saw the happiness in his eyes. He was tearing up and so were you. It was his dream after all! To debut as a kpop star. And he worked hard for it. He finally passed an audition and you both couldn't be more happy. He engulfed you in a hug, crying.
The day soon came. The day where he would leave you. He promised that you both would still be best friends but you couldn't help but feel sad. And the promise of still being best friends? Well, the last word didn't help. Little did you know the last word was too much for him to say too. Friends. That's what you were. As he entered the airport and you turned around to leave, it reminded of how much you love each other. But you both didn't know.
He now stood in front of the door. Nervous would be an understatement. You guys were meeting after 4 years after all. And calls didn't do justice with your feelings. As soon as he pushed the door open, he saw you there. Looking so different yet all the same. "Hi" he said. "Hi yeonjun" you said. You both rushed towards each other for a hug. And something felt...different. This time, you both knew. You both realized how much you love each other and just a hug did that. What would a kiss do? Well you found that out just as he pulled away and captured your lips with his.
[1:21 pm] you sat in the drab classroom, staring desperately at the clock, waiting for the minutes to go by just a little faster. the teacher's droning voice made your brain feel like it was melting. the entire hour had gone by that way, and it was beginning to feel like you would be spending the rest of your life in this desk.
you glanced up at the clock yet again, and this time, upon looking away, something next to you caught your eye.
the boy in the desk next to yours nonchalantly in his chair, partially leaned over his desk. pen in hand, he was detailing graffiti into the chipped surface. the pen's cap was nestled between his teeth, his bright blue hair falling just over his eyes as he worked. yeonjun was his name, you thought, having heard it maybe once or twice before when the teacher took attendance.
you were grateful for the sight, happy to have anything to relieve your mind from the droning lesson taking place at the front of the room. nobody was paying any attention to it, anyway.
his legs were crossed in front of him, ripped jeans revealing a good amount of skin underneath. you watched as his foot tapped the ground absent-mindedly, and found your eyes unable to leave him. silver earrings dangled delicately from his ears as he tilted his head to get a better angle of his drawing.
come to think of it, you couldn't quite tell what his drawing was. it resembled a cartoon-like face and body, and after staring at it for a few seconds longer you recognized it as a perfect caricature of the teacher.
you laughed quietly, trying but failing to stifle the sound, and the blue head of hair raised itself suddenly. his eyes were wide and dark as they met yours. you bit your lip to stop yourself from smiling so much.
his face spread into a grin at your reaction, pen cap still snug between his teeth, and went back to defacing school property. you watched from your seat, and you could feel the way he was spurred on under your attention.
before you knew it, the bell was ringing, signifying class was over. people started packing up their things all around you, so you followed suit. within seconds, yeonjun was up from his seat and out the door. you smiled to yourself, figuring he probably wanted to avoid getting caught.
maybe the class won't be so bad anymore, you thought. after all, you had something to entertain yourself with from then on as you waited every day for the minutes to pass by.
- you take your boyfriend yeonjun on a trip to the beach for the afternoon, and he’s as sweet as the melted red popsicle stained on his lips.
- a/n: hey~~ this is my first time writing something this long on here, and i put a lot of effort into it so please don’t hesitate to give me feedback! thank you for reading~ enjoy! (i listened to saltwater - geowulf while writing this)
~
you sat on a bench in the sand alongside the white cement sidewalk, hand resting by your leg. yeonjun’s hand lay on the wood beside him as well, only a few centimeters away. you watched as the beach breeze gently blew through his hair, carrying with it the subtle taste of salt. your bare feet touched the cool sand under the shade of a nearby tree, and you swung them, enjoying the feeling. the wind was being gentle for now, but you were afraid that at any moment it would sweep up grains of sand along with it, hurling them against the skin of your legs. yeonjun, on the other hand, looked carefree. he faced the wind with a sweet smile on his face.
the smile was content, much more subdued than the one that had blossomed on his face when you suggested a trip to the beach together. he looked truly radiant, skin practically begging to be kissed by the sun’s rays. he wore only a tight fitted white tank and swim trunks, and idly you thought that maybe you should have pestered him more about applying sunscreen with how much of his skin was showing.
holes in the shelter of the tree branches cast spots of sunlight on your little bench, constantly swaying with the wind. the patches of sun felt warm on your skin. distant shouting and laughter, birds squawking over food scraps, and the sound of the waves lapping against the shore created a nice chorus of noise in the air.
you reached out to grab yeonjun’s hand, intertwining your fingers with his on the wood. he turned his head and met your gaze, a sparkle in his eyes. gripping your hand, he suddenly stood, giving a tug on your arm to follow.
you stood, letting out a “what-” before yeonjun cut you off. “come on,” was all he said, excitedly pulling you along. the two of you walked leisurely down the sidewalk for a ways, the hot cement burning the bottoms of your bare feet. you took quick, light steps, and laughed when you looked up to see yeonjun wincing slightly. shoving his shoulder lightly, you giggled, “dork, i told you we should have brought our shoes from the car!”
“it’s the beach,” was all he said, weakly, with an embarrassed smile ghosting the corner of his mouth. “i’d say we should walk on the sand, but it’s probably hotter,” you said warily, eyeing the innocent looking white sand.
yeonjun only responded by swinging your intertwined hands between your bodies, squeezing tighter for a brief moment. then he turned his head and watched you until you felt the inclination to look back.
he nodded to the pavillion building drawing nearer as you walked. “want some ice cream?” he asked, a smile on his lips. “yes!” you squealed. “me too,” he responded cutely, reaching in his pocket to make sure his money was still there.
later, the two of you emerged from the building armed with strawberry popsicles. yeonjun was itching to feel the water, so you walked toward the shore leisurely. the popsicles had already begun to melt and run under the sun’s heat, so eating them proved to be a hurried task. you watched in amusement as his lips were gradually painted a sweet, strawberry red. you stared at the sight conspicuously, something fluttering inside you when he licked them, tasting the sweetness staining his lips.
before you knew it, you hit the water, sighing in relief as you felt it cool the bottoms of your feet from the hot walk. the strawberry taste was sweet on your tongue, sand massaging between your toes as you continued down the shore with yeonjun’s hand clasped in yours. he hummed contentedly, finishing his popsicle, running his tongue along the wooden stick. you pretended not to notice, blaming the warm flush of your skin on the burning sun.
“the water feels nice,” is all you said, quickly finishing your popsicle as well.
“want me to push you in?” yeonjun challenged, a glint in his eyes. he nudged his body into yours playfully, making you stumble. “you can try, but then it’s war,” you replied, voice flat and unbothered. he chuckled, placing his popsicle stick between his back teeth to chew on. “here, take mine,” you said, handing yours to him. he looked up at you with an eyebrow quirked, cheek bulging with the stick. cute, you thought.
“you want me to put yours in my mouth?” he asked incredulously, the stick in his mouth giving him a cute lisp. you nearly doubled over with laughter, halting your steps. he stopped a step ahead, still looking confused.
“you have pockets, dork,” you exclaimed, gesturing toward his swim trunks. he glanced down, breathing out a laugh and taking your stick between his fingers. he pulled his out of his mouth as well, sticking them into the deep pocket.
“hey, i mean…” he started, biting his reddened lip gently between his teeth. “not that i wouldn’t…” you let go of his hand then, and he turned his head toward you, a gentle smile growing on his face when he felt your hand wrap around his waist and pull him closer as you walked. he mirrored your actions, thumb gently rubbing at your side. the smile lingered on his face for many following moments.
the cool sea water sloshed and splashed under your feet, and you admired the few beautiful seashells perched in the sand that your eyes happened to fall upon as you passed. “hey, thanks for this,” yeonjun said suddenly. he looked at you then. “i really love it here,” he continued, gaze travelling over the horizon of the ocean and the hectic beach before landing back on you. you hummed. “i know,” you said, recalling the times he had mentioned how badly he wanted to visit sometime. “i’m glad we came, too.” you murmured.
eventually, you had had enough walking and the two of you agreed to head back to his car. you’d have to come back another day to actually get in the water, but as of now it was still too cold to swim in, and the summer was young.
you pranced funnily on the hot sand once again. the water of the ocean made the sand cake onto your feet, but it did little to protect you against the scalding ground. yeonjun walked at a slower pace, but said nothing, discomfort plain on his face.
“i really hate you for making me leave my shoes in the car,” you muttered through gritted teeth. he laughed, “i didn’t make you do anything.”
the sand ended, and soon enough you arrived safely at his car, sandals blissfully deposited on your feet after digging them out of the front passenger seat and slamming the door shut. yeonjun stood in front of you, a hand on the hood, looking at you like the most content man in the world.
you took a moment to admire him, noticing the perfect sun-kissed glow the afternoon had given him. he had a sun-induced flush to his cheeks, and you realized then that you could stare at him all day in his tight white tank, arms and shoulders fully exposed to the air. noticing your stare, he bit his lower lip, straightening himself against the car slightly. you watched his mouth, taking a breath in at the sight of the gentle pink color still staining his lips, wondering if he still tasted of sweet and sticky strawberries.
you stepped closer, and his eyes immediately flickered up to yours. you reached a hand up to his chest and glided it up over his shoulder, and further up his neck. his gaze burned into you, his skin hot to the touch from the sun. you pulled him to you, meeting his lips with yours. the breeze picked up for a moment, sand granules pelting your legs like needles, but you were too distracted at the moment to be too bothered. his lips melded perfectly into yours, warm and sweet. fingertips traced on your waist, and then hands wrapped around it, pulling you closer.
his lips, slightly chapped, tasted of sugar and yeonjun, and he turned his head to kiss you harder, deeper. you sighed into his mouth, reaching your hands up into the hair on the back of his head. you stood there, pushing and pulling back from each other, birds calling on the distant beach, the wind kissing your faces.
when you pulled away, you smiled, and he smiled back against your lips. “hot boy,” you whispered. his eyes gleamed, and he pulled away a bit further. “yeah,” he started to say, breathless, “i think i may have gotten a bit sunburnt.”
since it’s winter and the sun has started setting a lot earlier in the day it’s already really dark outside
so it’s pitch black inside and you can barely see anything
you were Not planning for this to happen
soon enough the temperature would start rapidly dropping because of the cold
it’s not that you wouldn’t have been able to handle the situation by yourself, but you knew you could rely on yeonjun to be there with you and make you feel better
the thought of being alone in a cold dark house for the night is not very appealing
he picks up the phone pretty quickly, his voice right in your ear already making you feel better with the simple “hello?” that echoes through the phone speaker
after telling him what happened, he goes “oh, really? it must have been the wind or something. are you okay? do you want to come stay with me? i can come and get you.”
he keeps going on and on because he’s more concerned than he’ll admit openly
he would drive over to your house so quickly
you could probably hear him rustling around through the phone putting his shoes on and grabbing his car keys
he ends the call with something stupid and cheeky like “don’t worry babe, i’m on my way to rescue you. see you in 5.”
and you laugh because he’s a dork
when he pulls up to your place and you get in his car he makes a point to turn up the heat
honestly would be such a sweet boy :(
he puts on some music and you laugh together on the way to his place
maybe he reaches over and grabs your hand on the console… haha just kidding… unless?
singing along to songs that come on the radio and he turns it up
once you get to his place, he lets you inside and upon trying to flip the light switches he finds that… he has no power
it must have gone out while he was gone
once you both get over the state of “are you kidding me,” you both lose it over how ridiculous it is
yeonjun is like “well, hey… at least we’re together?”
and he’s right
long story short you get to cuddle up together in bed for the night which is Absolutely Necessary for you to survive the cold
[8:21 pm] it was fall, which meant the air was turning cold and bitter, along with some of the people. the sun set early these days, throwing the world into pitch darkness too early in the evening. you quietly walked across the floor, approaching the corner of the wall that rounded into the living room. your feet were wrapped in thick socks to stop the cold from seeping in, the socks that yeonjun had bought for you as a present. the walls were cast with a yellow glow, creating a warm and gentle light that filled the room pleasantly. you placed a hand carefully on the wall, standing at the corner and pausing to glance around curiously. lit candles with their gently swaying flames were scattered around the room. and there sat yeonjun on your old and beaten up couch, his back to you with his guitar strap slung over his shoulder. he held his guitar delicately, leaning into it, face bent down in a way that made his hair fall over his eyes. he was blissfully unaware of his company. fingers expertly manipulating the strings, he began to play a melody that melted into the air like sweet honey and echoed off the walls. he moved his head to a rhythm that only he could hear, and then he started singing. you smiled, closing your eyes and listening to the ups and downs of the melody, soaking in his music. there was just something about his voice…
you decided, tonight you were going to tell him that you loved him.
you stood beside the wall for a moment longer, listening innocently with the feeling of warmth slowly seeping into you.
