re: clarifying post, honestly i feel all of what you said SO HARD. i can enjoy shipping in like, a kind of narrative thought exercise way? or a silly laugh of "it would never happen and that's why it's funny" way. but with the way fandoms are generally structured, it's SUPER easy for folks to get lost in the sauce of headcanons and personal interpretation and omg wouldn't it be cute if it was like THIS? and they're allowed to have their fun ofc, and there are some shows/etc that ARE shallow enough to warrant fanon overtaking canon. but when something is already super well written and people overlay their own buckwild takes anyway, it feels like a missed opportunity for engaging with the media on it's own terms? esp when it all just flattens out into the same bland uwu soft kissu every time skdjfh
