The smile returns full force. Their exhaustion seems temporarily lifted. Your stardust steps closer, between the roots, right into your space, and transfers the flower gently to your hand. Their touch lingers, fingers brushing against your own.
You feel distinctly unsteady. This is stupid. You're both so stupid. What do you think is happening here. What is your stardust doing?
You look at the flower.
"What am I even supposed to do with this?" you say.
He shrugs. "Keep it? It's pretty."
"It will disappear the moment you loop." You roll the stem between your fingers. "It's meaningless."
Your stardust stills your hand with a soft touch. "It means something, starshine."
