Random homework assignment, pull up the Metal Slug 3 soundtrack and enjoy the big sibling of the Sega Genesis's sound chip being used in 2000. Bonus points for the Metal Slug 4 soundtrack in which said 1987 soundchip was tricked into modern streamed audio music.

I may also recommend the soundtracks from King of Fighters 97-2000.

this has a sort of proggy feel to it, which I love

and then “Ending” has this cheesy edge that works just perfectly. 

the only thing I don’t like is that the best track, “Stage Clear”, is only 11 seconds long.
