this is a phenomenon that he’s heard of, groot knows; if he recalls, it involves replacing a word with another of a similar sound, but with a certain connotation that’s somehow humorously relevant to the circumstances of the comment –––– ! it’s an intricacy of the terran language that rocket’s introduced to him, on a few different occasions before he’s taken it on board ( and he’s learning, opportunistic initiation of pun battles that draw groans and barks of laughter from both of them –––– ha ! ).
to be honest, he’s unsure of exactly where this insult had stemmed. perhaps, he should tell yondu to leaf him alone; or to branch out past the medioakre tree jokes. yet, he’s unwilling to soil the xandarian’s repotation with his own set of overelmingly groot repartree ––––
