What equipment and props can be used for yoga?
Yoga is being practised all over the world now. Many are performing and benefiting from yoga on daily basis.
The very first considerations you should have with respect to yoga (once you decide to start) are daily timing / routine and equipment required to perform yoga.
Mats: You don't need much to practice yoga, but in modern yoga studios with hardwood floors, you will need a sticky rubber mat to keep you from slipping. Prices for yoga mats may seem expensive, but in the long run the durability and comfort of your mat will make a difference in your yoga practice. It isn't as important when you're learning as when you are immersed in practice and do not want to be distracted by mats that slide out from under you or yoga towels that wear out quickly. Mats are now a necessity in most studios. You pay more for more sweat resistance, more padding, more stickiness. For $20, you should be able to purchase an mat of reasonable quality. You can usually rent a mat from the yoga studio for $1 to $2 if you're just starting out.
Towel: A towel is also necessary in the yoga studio. Most of the yoga studios request that you to bring your own towel. Many yoga practices require enough physical exersion to cause excess sweating and if you decide to do “hot yoga”, you’ll be glad that you brought a towel.
Blocks And Wedges: Yoga blocks are used to support the full weight of your neck or bottom when you are in specific yoga positions. For example, when you are in down dog, or bent knee down dog you may need to rest your forehead on a block for support. Yoga blocks come in different dimensions and shapes. Blocks are generally made of thick, resistant foam or cork. Both materials are lightweight but strong and durable.
Straps: Straps are made of cotton and useful for stretching and holding poses, particularly for poses with your legs. They come with a D-ring or quick-release buckle to adjust the length. The quick release is easier to adjust. Many Wellness Circle studios provide straps
Balance balls, balance disks, or balance boards: Yoga balls and other balance equipment come into play when you are ready to move yoga to the next level, or combine Pilates with yoga. Balance balls help improve muscles and posture. Practicing using balance balls help strengthen your back, increase your range of motion, strength, and balance. Yoga balancing equipment can be used in a variety of ways including stretching and active exercises.
