A short fic inspired by some discussion with @threeplusfire about Smith bringing home gifts to his garbage court boys. 

Summary: Fights were easy. If Smith fought with anyone, he could throw a punch. He left with a black eye or a broken bone, and a few weeks later it stopped mattering. A few baths in the city river and he was fine. Arguments . . . arguments were not easy.

Kirin as... I think former Brotherhood who while on a routine excursion to pick up some new technology lost his legs to a land mine. The Brotherhood tried to sideline him as a data entry scribe, but sitting in a bunker surrounded by more technology than is really wise, he had other plans. He started with humanoid legs, of course, but when the Brotherhood disapproved of his actions, disobeying orders, and threw him out, he went with something more interesting.

The new legs are more mobile and faster and help in the Mojave Wasteland, navigating the rough terrain. 

Imagine that faux-friendly voice tinny through a mask, a vivid blue light burning just past the goggles, the shadowy man like a mirage across the sands.

I like the idea that the ‘horns’ on his helm are more curled and are almost tesla coils, that his gloves let him channel electricity through his body.

Imagine Kirin lifting Will by his mechanical arm, right off his feet, and Will gasping at the crackle of static and how the hair at the base of his neck stands up.

so i know that bandit!nano was briefly touched upon in fallout au - any more thoughts on that? if not, how do you think will and kirin meet initially?

I wasn’t there for the bandit!nano idea, that’s prob when my bad thing called me away.

I just got Sam to link me all the caps I missed, including the robogoat legs and my god.

So in my head, Strife is a boy from Vault 21 who happened to be more unlucky that most of his vault mates. When Mr. House sealed up Vault 21, he was not upset at all and happy to get the hell out of there. Too many people “joking” about how he could wager his arm and leg into a game of cards just grated.

Out in the Mojave, he scavengers for material and using his familiarity with Vault technology to safely recover rare mats to sell. His arm is powered by a complicated but sturdy hydraulic system, or a mechanical system that is very advanced but demands coolant to operate, so trading for water is vital. He’s a walking treasure chest: crack open his carapace or his skull and gold spills out, gears or brilliance galore.

The Brotherhood would scare the shit out of him. With their lust for technology and habit for taking it away from people, he’d avoid them at all costs because his arm is his. More than his squishy arm, because he built the other one.

Strife meets Kirin at a trading post, maybe, when Kirin sees him filling up on ammo and trading caps for water, having the trader pour it right into the tank on his back before he set off again, perhaps to a Vault to raid (22?) and decides to follow...

I could say more if folks are interested. I’m looking over these stream screencaps and ideas are forming.

but no lemme make a list of why i like Strife’s FO:NV playthrough

okay like the editing, the editing, the amount of work that’s obviously put into this. Will’s said that he puts at minimum 4 hours into editing a single episode and it can be up to 8 if there is a lot of dialogue and it shows, it’s just so clean and you have to remember the boy does all the work himself, good fucking god

Will is a real life coffee addict and so made his character addicted to Black Coffee in the game, that’s so cute

he’s literally playing a middle-aged queer explosives-happy Courier who steals everything that isn’t nailed down but gets sidetracked constantly to help everyone

he found two fucksticks who were trafficking people including teenagers and immediately killed the shit out of them

ostensibly took the “gay perk”, Confirmed Bachelor, for the 10% damage increase against male enemies but has also taken every gay dialogue option and has acted it out with so much more warmth than I would have expected from anyone who isn’t... Cry or Nilesy or Zoey, honestly

he totally fucked the robot and it was hilarious

HE CALLS VERONICA “V” AND IT’S REALLY CUTE OKAY, HE WORRIES ABOUT HER AND GETS EXCITED WHEN SHE KILLS EVERYTHING AND SAVES HIS ASS, IT’S LOVELY

is doing an actually really interesting build for his character and has everything planned out, like i am pretty sure he has written down what skills he needs to build up at which levels

avoids fast traveling and thus has to put in a lot of extra work plotting the quest order so he doesn’t have long periods of walking and believe me I know FO:NV that is not a small task

the Vault 11 two-parter was superb

angrily referred to nightkin as “invisible motherfuckers” which was so startling i started laughing (also the entire sequence was gr8 and his post-mortem on it was HILARIOUS)

IT’S THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME (fight me) PLAYED BY A TINY NERD (fight me more) WITH A VOICE LIKE A WHISKEY SUNRISE (u ain’t gonna fight me no one disagrees on this)
