If we were to write another trans male character in Yonder it would probably have to be in the sequel DISSOLVE bc the only character roles that still need to be filled are minor characters for the mafia and also Yolanda’s gang in NYC.
I got a real good idea for how I’m going to write him in too, and the more I think about this the more this specific character needs to happen to further Nolan’s character developement but I’ll also probably end up writing some side short stories about him too
I imagine that he has some extensive trauma in his past at the hands of Ulrich and Matteo much like Mallory does, and that probably affected him a lot in terms of how he views himself and the other people around him
I can just like see a scene where Nolan finds out there’s a trans guy in Yolanda’s gang and he’s so hype about it bc bc of his personality and upbringing he’s really started to view all cis men as threats to his own masculinity and most women he comes in contact with as ppl who want to fetishize him, convert him “back to being a girl” or like chasers and shit so he’s thrilled at the opportunity to befriend another trans guy but the moment (let’s call this other character Elliot) that Elliot hears about how (in his view) easy Nolan has had his journey transitioning he gets bitter and hostile and Nolan is like. So confused
And Elliot is stuck in this weird place where he’s so affected by his circumstances that he’s really been pushed and pulled by himself and others in and out of the closet and these people who are like supposed to be his friends, like Yolanda and bunny and stuff, hear him talk about “idk if I’m really butch I think I am trans after all” and kinda stop taking him seriously unfortunately but they’re still like supportive they just don’t understand or have context for how hard Elliot’s journey has been trying to navigate trauma recovery and gender identity at the same time
And like he has a big fight with someone about it and nolan chases after him to talk about it and says some Shit like “I’m trans too, I understand what you’re going through”
And Elliot’s just like. Yeah you’re trans too but u were raised by lesbians and started puberty blockers when u were like 9 but yes, Nolan O’Neil tell me more how u understand about how my childhood trauma affects my relationship with my gender identity, how people I’m supposed to call my friends judge me for being “wishy washy”, how my injuries make passing almost impossible and how my parents won’t talk to me anymore :)
Idk maybe that’s projecting like. A little too severely but whatever. Besides being a plot relevant character and having a motive of his own I think Elliot as a parallel to Nolan really will help push his character to realize that the things he says and does do have an effect on other people and that like. That someone doesn’t have to be useful/relevant for u to have a positive or caring relationship/attitude for them.
