How would look a romantic relationship between Mafia!Ranpo (if Fukuzawa never cuts ties with Mori) and Mafia!Yosano? How would Fukuzawa/Mori react to it?

So, for me, the most interesting part of this question deals with Ranpo and Yosano’s first meeting in the manga. The whole reason why their relationship is important is because Ranpo is the first person she’s met since she was first drafted who has valued her for something other than her ability to save lives- her kindness. 

But, if Yosano remained inside of the mafia and Ranpo joined because of Fukuzawa, this interaction wouldn’t have happened. Instead, Yosano would have continued to save the lives that Mori requested at the same self-exhausting pace. Now, I’m just going to assume that in this Mafia universe that Mori does not exclusively maintain his ties to the military and continues to operate the Mafia as normal. Meaning, the majority of Yosano’s job would consist of healing Port Mafia members and potentially torturing people for information (seeing as though she could keep them on the brink of death without actually killing them). For Ranpo, we don’t have existing ties to go off of, but we could guess that he would be given some sort of stategical position seeing as though the Port Mafia has no need for an actual detective.

Just like how Yosano starts out eager and excited while working for the military but then slowly dissolves into over-worked despair, the same thing would happen if she joined the mafia. She would gradually become unable to bear the moral burden of having to heal so many of Yokohama’s most heinous criminals, and then one day, she would snap. Mori would ask her to heal a man guilty of something particularly cruel and Yosano would just straight up refuse. Of course, Mori wouldn’t accept that and would threaten her in attempt to make her do it anyway. That’s where Ranpo comes in. Using his abilities as a strategist, Ranpo could convince Mori that it would be more strategic in the long run to let the man die instead of reviving him, thus removing Yosano’s responsibilty to heal him. Mori suspects that this is simply a reason to help Yosano, but he goes along with it becuase he knows that Ranpo’s plans have never failed.

From there, Ranpo comforts Yosano and explains to her once again that she is more than just her ability, and that her kindness is just as important and useful to the mafia. While it takes a while for Yosano to recover, she quickly realizes that Ranpo is the only person in the Mafia who truly understands her and thinks of her as more than just an “asset”. Based on their mutual feelings of understanding for eachother, their romantic relationship becomes a natural porgression. Despite the dangerous and criminal work they do every day, they know that there is at least one person in the world who knows them and loves them despite the awful things they do. 

As for Fukuzawa and Mori’s reactions, I think they would both be supportive for different reasons. Fukuzawa obviously has a bit of a soft spot for Ranpo, so I think he would be secretly happy that Ranpo has found something other than people’s fear and respect for him that fufills him. Mori however would would be supportive for a much less wholesome reason. Mori would know just how much of a toll being in the mafia takes on Yosano, but seeing how integral her ability is to his overally mission of making gifteds an essential part of the government/military, he would need assurance that she would stay. Now that he knows that Ranpo and Yosano are in a happy relationship, he feels more confident that Yosano has more of a reason to stay in the mafia.

Inked On - Bungou Stray Dogs

The proof is there, plain as day. There is no denying who her soulmate is. Yosanpo/Ranaki Soulmate AU.

The ink starts sinking into her arm while she’s finishing paperwork at the end of her shift with some of the nurses. Her coat is draped over a chair, and her arms are bared so everyone at the station can see what’s going on real time.

“Yosano-sensei!” One of the nurses calls for her attention, catching the action before she has.

“If it’s another question on how to fill the forms out, I’m not answering it.” Yosano informs him with a barely restrained sigh. “I’ve answered you three times already, and really, that’s three times too many.”

“No, no!” Haruto jumps in to Sasaki’s defense. “Your arm, look at your arm Yosano-sensei!” And she too points at Yosano’s arm.

“What about it?” She asks, moving to inspect it. “All I see are instructions on how to take the... train...” Yosano trails off as she realizes the implications of what the ink on her arm means, while Haruto gives a really quiet squeal.

“Ah, Yosano-sensei, that is so romantic!” She coos, squishing her face between her hands. “You truly are so lucky, blessed really, to have a soulmate!” 

“They’re an imbecile.” Yosano says remorselessly, and turns her attention back to her paperwork.

“What?” Haruto gasps like Yosano had insulted her own mother. “How can you say that about your own soulmate?!”

“Anyone who needs instructions on how to take the train is obviously lacking something in the common sense department.” Yosano scoffs. “Especially seeing as this isn’t even the first time this has occurred.”

And no, it isn’t the first time. It isn’t even the second or the third time. Really, it has happened so many times by now that Yosano’s actually stopped counting. The first time, Yosano could have excused it - perhaps they were from an area that didn’t have access to trains, and it was their first time taking the train. Even the second time, because it had been quite a time gap between the first and the second times. 

But it’s not just how to take the train: it’s how to take the bus, it’s how to take a taxi. A ferry. Any sort of public transport, how to take it gets written on her arm

“You mean you’ve been getting these messages from your soulmate for a while now?!” Haruto acts like Yosano has committed a cardinal sin by not saying anything before now. “Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Probably because she doesn’t have to?” Sasaki interjects. “C’mon Haruto-chan, you shouldn’t be prying into Yosano-sensei’s personal life - it’s not polite.” Sasaki gives Yosano an apologetic smile, and tugs gently at Haruto’s shoulder to bring her attention back to her work. 

Shaking her head, Yosano returns to her own work, pushing all thoughts of soulmates out of her head.

See, soulmates are a fickle thing in this society. They say when words appear on your body, it’s because your soulmate has written a message on their body in ink, and the bond between two souls is so strong that the message travels to the other’s body.

Of course, it is rumored that it doesn’t happen to everybody, and really, most people think it’s a load of crock not meant to be taken seriously. There are few believers, and even fewer who actually have the phenomenon occur to them.

For Yosano, she had always existed in a gray area for whether or not she believed in the phenomenon, up until it happened to her for the first time.

And now, she’s uncertain as to where she should stand.

At the Armed Detective Agency, everyone exchanges tales of drawings their own (unmatched) soulmates have put on their bodies. Atsushi tells wistful tales of a soulmate who would write “I am good” on their arms and how it got him through tough times at the orphanage. Dazai expertly avoids any questions about why he wears bandages on his arms and if they have anything to do with his soulmate, while Kunikida sputters to avoid questions about his own soulmate. The Tanizaki siblings declare they have no need for soulmates if they have one another.

Ranpo refuses to talk about it, strangely, though Yosano is similarly clammed up about her soulmate experiences. After all it’s her private life, so she doesn’t need to share it unless she absolutely has to. Which, conveniently, she hasn’t had to.

Of course, this all breaks apart one fateful afternoon.

Ranpo is, as usual, napping at his desk while (most) everyone else is attempting to do the day’s paperwork. Yosano’s focused on her paperwork, so she doesn’t notice a change to the afternoon’s normal rhythm until she hears the pop of a marker cap being removed. Looking up, the culprit is Dazai, holding a black marker and standing by Ranpo.

“Are you three?” She asks Dazai, mostly rhetorically.

“Yup!” He agrees, smiling broadly, and Yosano just shakes her head and sighs.

“It’s your funeral.”

And really, Ranpo won’t react too dramatically to whatever Dazai draws on his face, but Yosano’s sure there will be some sort of mini tantrum from Ranpo due to Dazai’s actions.

Shrugging, Dazai presses forward, and draws... something, she guesses on Ranpo’s face. Yosano doesn’t continue watching the spectacle, choosing to finish her paperwork.

It’s not until Dazai hums a small “Ta-da” that Yosano looks up again, resting a cheek on her palm as she gives him as bored of attention as possible. On Ranpo’s face, Dazai has drawn a pair of glasses, probably mocking the ones he always uses for his “Super Deduction” ability. Dazai gives her an odd look, but nothing is said until Atsushi pipes up.

“Um, Yosano-sensei?” He catches her attention hesitantly. Then, like, he’s uncertain as whether to tell her or not, Atsushi continues, “Your face...”

“What about it?” Yosano asks, while Dazai gives a small snort. 

“Well...” Atsushi awkwardly gestures between her and Ranpo, as if trying to get her to look at Ranpo once more. When it appears that Yosano still doesn’t understand, he gestures to Ranpo, and then to his own face.

Realization dawns on her, and she’s ripping through her desk drawers to find a compact mirror that isn’t there.

“Tanizaki-chan!” She barks, not quite panicked but close to it. “Tanizaki-chan, I need your mirror!”

Popping in from the other room, Tanizaki Naomi appears, purse in hand, a look of confusion on her face. She looks at Yosano, then at Atsushi and Dazai, to Ranpo, and then back to Yosano, a bit quicker than before. Dazai mimes zipping his mouth shut, and Naomi nods rapidly, a smile breaking across her face.

“Here you go, Yosano-san!” Naomi hands over her compact cheerily.

Yosano all but rips the compact open, raising it eye level to see a matching set of eyeglasses on her face to the set that Dazai has drawn on Ranpo’s face.

“Talk about an office romance!” Naomi declares. “You’re so lucky!”

There’s no denying it.

Yosano and Ranpo are soulmates.

I’m screaming I’m so sorry this took so long. I had it started and just never finished it and then I got super busy due to Hell Week and Opening for the show I’m in.

It’s the soft tip-toe of fingers up her shin for the fifth time in as many minutes that makes Yosano intensely regret agreeing to take a bath with Ranpo.

The two detectives have been casually ‘dating-but-maybe-not’ for a while now. Really, Yosano and Ranpo are dating, but it’s something that neither of them have actually openly discussed with one another. Their relationship is an open secret in the office. Technically speaking, neither Yosano nor Ranpo have actually announced their relationship to the others (or at least, Yosano doesn’t think Ranpo has, and she knows she hasn’t) but there’s that distinct feel to the office that tells Yosano that they know.

“I thought I told you to keep your hands to yourself.” Yosano doesn’t quite snap, but her voice reaches a close tone.

“I’m not doing anything.” Ranpo whines, and Yosano mentally adds ‘this time’ to the end of his statement. He doesn’t move his hand, the pads of his fingers pressing softly into the side of her shin.

“You’re touching my shin. I’m pretty sure that constitutes as ‘something’.” Yosano responds dryly, flicking water across the tub at Ranpo. If it makes contact, he doesn’t even look up from where he’s staring intensely at her shin. Mildly, Yosano hopes that this doesn’t devolve into some weird fetish talk.

Still, a shin fetish wouldn’t be that bad on the list of weird fetishes people have. She remembers a guy she went to university with for a short time and he apparently had a thing for headless chicks…

“I’m not doing anything bad.” Ranpo says in amendment, resuming the tip-toe of his fingers along her skin. Yosano tilts her shin out away from Ranpo, and draws in closer towards herself in hopes of deterring the other, but Ranpo follows her movement.

“Then what, pray tell, are you doing?” Yosano asks, watching Ranpo’s hands so they don’t come wandering towards her breasts. Again. Honestly, if she had realized Ranpo’s mentality to would turn to one of a handsy teenager, Yosano would have never agreed to take a bath with him.

“Your scars.” Ranpo says simply, as if that answered everything. And yes, Yosano realizes when she actually looks down at her shin where Ranpo’s hand is placed, his fingers are traversing the expanse of one of her scars.

“Mm, what about them?” Yosano hums, rapping her nails against the side of the tub. “Scars happen.”

“Yes.” Ranpo agrees. “I just never thought you would have so many.”

“Thou Shalt Not Die only heals life-threatening injuries, unfortunately.” Yosano faux-laments. “Not only that, but a lot of these occurred when I was younger, before I realized I had an ability.”

“Interesting.” Ranpo says, eyes seemingly scrutinizing Yosano. They linger around her stomach and chest, and while normally she would make the jump to Ranpo being perverted again, her mind takes a different leap.

“Regardless,” She says flippantly, trying to avoid the topic neither of them want to breach, “Thou Shalt Not Die doesn’t form scars when it heals people, so all I get these days are scars from stupid things I did when I was younger. See this?” She all but shoves her knee in Ranpo’s face to get him to stop staring at her chest.

“I did gymnastics when I was younger.” Yosano continues before Ranpo can respond. Her speech is not frenetic, it’s simply fast-paced so Ranpo can’t deny where he was looking or voice any sort of confusion.

“I stuck a landing wrong, and messed up my knee bad enough that I needed surgery to correct it.” She moves Ranpo’s hand so it traces the scar that circles part of her knee. “This is the surgical scar from it. The injury was so bad I had to quit gymnastics, and afterwards I just told people whenever they asked about my injury that someone had tried to chop my leg off. With the scar, it made for a convincing case.” She takes a deep breath - not to calm herself, just to take a breath - and points at Ranpo’s shoulder.

“What about you?” Yosano asks. She presses her index finger into a discolored knot of scar tissue resting high on his left clavicle. “What’s this from?”

“Got shot before the Agency was started.” Ranpo answers simply. It’s delivered in a matter-of-fact tone, as if it was a consequence he had expected and long recovered from.

“Something tells me your stellar personality played a part in that fiasco.” Yosano snorts a laugh.

“My personality is as likely to get me shot as your bedside manner is to get you shot.” Ranpo retaliates. Yosano quirks an eyebrow, and Ranpo regrets what he’s said almost instantly.

“There is no way you’ve been shot over your bedside manner!” He declares with as much authority as if he were using Super Deduction.

“Haven’t I?” Yosano replies coyly. “Why don’t you try to find the scar that proves it?”

“Is that a challenge?” Ranpo says, fingers sliding up her thigh as he leans closer to her.

“You tell me.”

Stitches - Bungou Stray Dogs

Hahaha, so long after my last BSD, here I come. This isn’t as YosanoxRanpo as Incompetence was, but there’s hints of it I think. I’ve had this completed for a few days, but I finally got a chance to edit it, and here we go!

Though many of them forget, Yosano was a licensed doctor before agreeing to work for the Agency.

It starts, as all things at the Agency are wont to do, with Ranpo. Or, at least, an inciting incident with Ranpo as the focal point for some reason or another. (And true, they all had to agree, that the person who caused the most problems had shifted from Ranpo to Atsushi since he started at the Agency, but Ranpo currently still held the record for most incidents overall.)

It’s a long story that Yosano truly does not wish to hear. And she doesn’t! As soon as the three bleeding boys (yes, two of them are grown ass men, but when they make stupid decisions that cause injuries they automatically revert to idiotic toddlers in her mind) stumble over the threshold of her infirmary Yosano claims deniability. Whatever Ranpo, Atsushi, and Dazai (and isn’t that one of the most bizarre combinations she’s seen yet) did to get them so bloodied and beat up is their business and can stay that way. All she needs (and wants) to know is where the injuries are.

Unsurprisingly, Ranpo’s the worst off of the trio - Yosano has no doubt that the majority of the blood covering the three of them probably originated from the pale, woozy looking twenty-six-year-old. Of course, some of it probably originated from the other two as well. Atsushi is lucky, with his Moonlight Tiger Ability he has amazing regenerative capabilities that make Thou Shalt Not Die completely unnecessary; he looks as if whatever scuffle they encountered left him completely unharmed. Dazai has a couple scrapes, and a bloody nose that she’s certain was caused by some lady he propositioned for suicide rather than an actual fight. She decides he can suffer.

Ranpo, however...

Yosano isn’t sure if he simply took the most damage, Atsushi and Dazai encountered him being beat up, or if Atsushi and Dazai saw Ranpo getting beat up and decided to add two more to the pile. Still she does her best to affirm that she does not want to know.

“What, did you guys help beat up Ranpo?” She can’t help but comment sarcastically though as she takes stock of the injuries. Ranpo, too, has a bloody nose, and there’s a rip in his coat that he’s holding closed that Yosano’s fairly certain houses the fountain that’s spewing blood all over him.

“Well –” Atsushi starts to answer her, and Yosano cuts him off nigh instantaneously.

“Stop right there.” She orders him. “I don’t actually want to know.” Yosano turns back towards Ranpo.

“Move your hand.” Yosano says, not really wanting to deal with the noncompliance she’s inevitably going to receive.

“I’m fine,” Ranpo replies in what, quite frankly, is a bratty noncompliant tone of voice. “It’s just a scratch, it’ll stop bleeding on its own.”

“Sure it will,” Yosano deadpans, not even needing to glance towards Atsushi who is undoubtedly furtively disagreeing with Ranpo’s statement. She settles back in the seat by the bedside where Ranpo is sitting, crossing one leg over the other. “It’s okay, I can wait.” Yosano has the patience of, well, a doctor when it comes to treating patients. She also has the sadism of an MP interrogator when it comes to treating them as well, but those two are completely unrelated.

Most members of the Agency actively avoid the infirmary, doing their best not to get injured out on cases, or even just in general. Yosano doesn’t blame them, as she is able to admit that sometimes her bedside manner tends to be lacking to say the least.

She and Ranpo stare off in silence. If Ranpo would prefer to pass out due to blood loss that’s not Yosano’s problem. She did her best to get Ranpo to comply, now it is simply a battle of wills to see who will crack first.

And the person who cracks first, apparently, is neither of them.

Instead, it’s Atsushi, who Yosano has admittedly forgotten was still in the room to begin with.

“Ranpo, just show her the wound!” Really, Atsushi isn’t panicking, but he does pull at Ranpo’s hand with a level of anxiousness that is just below panic.

Finally, Ranpo relents, his hand being pulled away from the slash that runs up his arm. It doesn’t look too deep, but it does run the length of Ranpo’s forearm, looking like a nice jagged cut. Probably caught it against something running away from or after someone.

“Definitely needs stitches,” Yosano says, pulling away from the boys to get supplies from the cupboard. A needle, thread, anesthetic, and, as she thinks about it, “Should give you a tetanus shot as well.” And by ‘should’ she means that she will, already pulling it out.

“Take your coat off.” She adds as an afterthought as she roots around for everything she needs.

“Stitches?” Ranpo and Atsushi echo behind her, accompanied with something that suspiciously sounds like a childish slap-fight accompanied by muffled chuckling.

“I thought you were just going to use Thou Shalt Not Die,” Atsushi says, sharing a look with Ranpo, very obviously confused.

“Thou Shalt Not Die can only be used on someone who’s already half-dead,” Yosano sighs as if that was glaringly obvious, returning to her spot by Ranpo. His coat is draped next to him, and someone’s already taken the liberty of rolling up his sleeve for her. “And, as shocking as it may seem, I actually did go to medical school. My ability isn’t the only thing that qualifies me to act as the Agency’s doctor.” She takes a medical wipe, cleaning away blood from the wound.

“That’s right,” Ranpo agrees, even though he had appeared just as shocked as Atsushi that Yosano wasn’t going to be using her ability on him. “Your MD would say otherwise.”

“Damn straight it does.” Yosano tells him, before saying, “You’ll feel a slight pinch.” She slides the needle under his skin, administering anesthetic around the area before stitching the skin back together. The strained face Ranpo makes tells her that he can at least feel the pull of the stitches as she does his work, but he doesn’t yank his arm away or complain, so Yosano keeps working.

“All right,” She says as she ties off the last stitch. “You just need a tetanus shot and then you’re free to laze about like usual.”

“Ah, I think the tetanus shot is unnecessary.” Ranpo replies quickly, moving to stand up.

“No way.” Yosano grabs Ranpo’s hand before he can fully stand up, yanking him back down into his seat. “You are not leaving this infirmary until you’ve had a tetanus shot.”

“I don’t want it.” Ranpo refuses, attempting to pull from Yosano’s grip to escape.

“I don’t care.” Yosano rebuts, not releasing Ranpo.

“It’s not necessary!”

“I don’t know what the hell you cut your arm on, you’re getting a tetanus shot.”

“I don’t like needles!”

“I just stuck you with one ten times!”

It turns into a childish squabble, both Agency members in a physical and metaphorical battle of tug of war. Neither are refusing to let up, and it seems for a moment that they have reached a stalemate. Then,

“For the love of-” Yosano scowls irately, yanking Ranpo back down one last time. This time, once he’s down, Yosano straddles him, forcing him to stay down. A parody of a lover’s cradle, once situated Yosano forces Ranpo’s shirt sleeve up further, before stabbing him in the shoulder with the needle and depressing the plunger.

“That hurt.” Ranpo whines as she removes the needle, raising a hand to rub at his shoulder.

“Stop being a baby.” Yosano replies coldly. “I’m fairly certain that the ten stitches you got was worse than that one little tetanus shot.”

“No way,” He protests, “You’ve obviously never gotten a shot in your life.”

“Trust me,” Yosano says, leaning closer, practically growling the words, “I have given and received several shots before. You’re being a baby. What do you want me to do, kiss it better?”

Their noses are practically touching at this point, staring one another down. Sarcasm is heavily implied with the last part, but immediately after the words leave Yosano’s mouth, Atsushi, who she admittedly forgot was still there, pipes up.

“Um, okay, well, we’ll just be going then.” He says awkwardly, and Yosano turns to look and remembers, oh yeah, Dazai’s still there as well, watching them with the same placid smile he always wears, eyes crinkled shut with amusement. Dazai doesn’t say anything to Yosano or Ranpo as he allows Atsushi to drag him out of the infirmary, but he does pick on Atsushi’s embarrassment as they go.

“Actually, I do want you to kiss it better,” Ranpo answers as soon as the infirmary door slams shut behind the other two detectives, Yosano looking back at him. There’s a wicked smile perched on his lips, like a cat who just got the cream or a chess master who achieved checkmate.

“Go to hell.” Yosano responds, pushing him down, and climbing off of him. She goes and disposes of the needle, ignoring Ranpo as he whines about her harsh treatment.

If Ranpo wants her to kiss him, he can kneel at her feet and beg her to.
