Look, fandom can make nearly anything good, but I gotta say creators have terrible taste in ships. You could have set up a relationship between those two that made sense had you wanted them together. That’s what the fans of your ship do in AUs. But you didn’t, and now your romance arc contradicts your setup as you wrote it. 

90% of the time I fucking hate it when creators ship things. Just admit that you can’t write romance and let your fans worry about that part. I guarantee someone will write your desired pairing for free and better than you ever could.
