Raymie Nightingale, Kate DiCamillo 

This book is beautiful. I wish I could tell my students about it, but I don’t work at the library anymore so a post-it note will have to do. There is a melancholy and a magic to Kate DiCamillo’s writing. The first book I read of hers was The Tiger Rising in the summer after fourth grade. It was a tradition to reread it every summer. I’m glad I read this book in the summer. You should also read it, maybe even this summer.

Do You Know Dewey? Exploring the Dewey Decimal System, Brian P. Cleary

I read this book to my students to teach them about the Dewey Decimal System. The entire book rhymes, which they all enjoyed. It was fun, yet informative. Aside from a questionable page about the tomb of an Egyptian queen, I’d recommend it.

Drama, Raina Telgemeier

I ordered this for the library, read it, and loved it. I’ve heard great things about it, but had kind of low expectations because I didn’t love Smile ... but this book is so great. It’s such a positive book, with a refreshing amount of representation. I’m excited for it to start circulating.

Doing It at the Dixie Dew, Ruth Moose 

My mom got me a cozy mystery! The inside flap makes the book seem a bit gruesome, but we’ll just have to see.

Heart Burn, Nora Ephron 

I was looking for another book from my cozy mystery series, but instead found this. It’s written by Nora Ephron though, and recipes are included! I’m looking forward to reading it.

The Art of Mending, Elizabeth Berg 

Hi, friends! Happy Valentine’s Day!! 

I read this book a while back, and afterwards I couldn’t get it out of my head. I don’t even know what to say about it. Thinking back, it creates such a deep sense of unease. I’m sending it to a friend in a long overdue package. Hopefully, she’ll read it so we can talk about it. 

The story is split between North Dakota and Minnesota. The protagonist is a quilter, who's struggling to untangle her childhood/ family’s past while balancing that with her current life. The story is filled with very specific and gritty details that make it feel like you’re glimpsing into someone’s real life.
