I gotta admit the post about accidentally courting and proposing to the king and queen of hell made me think.
I live in a town with old folklore about witch:ers meeting once a year to compete for the devil's attention. Whoever won, got to dance with him. I would wager his wife had a say in choosing the winner as well.
But perhaps winning that competition entailed more than just a couple dances 👉🏻👈🏻
OOOH I like that!! I'd love to hear more about this folklore! 👀👀
As for dancing with Lucifer! In my mind, I immediately had the thought "Lucifer and Lilith hold this dance every year because they are searching for another wife" and up until now they haven't had much luck in finding her 😭😭 the reason why the witch who wins gets a dance with the devil is because the dance is a courting ritual. A way for Lucifer to see how the witch and the witch's soul responds to his. maybe the witch who wins is escorted by the king and queen to a private area in the forest with them and is then pulled into a dance.
If it goes well, they proceed to the next stage of courting.
No witch has gotten past the first stage. At least, not until you, of course.
The angel's praise brings warmth to your cheeks and, admittedly, boosts your ego a bit. Fittingly, you pride yourself on your dancing ability. And if there was anyone you hoped to impress the most, it was him. That's why you competed in the first place after all.
"So do you, Lord Lucifer," you respond, unable to pull your eyes away from his soft golden ones.
"Just Lucifer." He corrects you, smiling warmly. "tell me your name, mortal~"
As the two of you talk, Lilith watches the waltz from the side, sat upon a fallen tree. Or rather, she's watching the way your souls dance and interact, and so far it's looking favorable. The way they sway and intertwine around your bodies, as if flirting with the idea of merging into one, but shying away too soon. The seed of a connection is there. With enough nurturing, Lilith could see it bloom into something beautiful.
Lilith watches your faces for further signs of interest. Smiles. Laughter. A much more welcoming sight to see to the apathy he is so used to expressing during these dances.
She hoped that this attempt would bear fruitful for once. Not only for hers, but also her dear husband's sake.
Your dance with Lucifer ended in one last twirl before he bowed before you and kissed the back of your hand. He stands upright and cups your cheek in his palm to admire you. The moon and stars reflected in your eyes leave him utterly enchanted...
"I would very much like to have your company a while longer, sweet one," he coos through a forked tongue, his eyes half-lidded. The sparkle of something mischievous behind them. "may we have the honor of hosting you in our palace as a guest for the night~?"
Your heartbeat picked up the pace considerably. The witch who won would be returning back to town by this point. She would receive her dance, exchange a few pleasantries, and then return to the rest of the group with bragging rights.
As far as you know, Lucifer never invited them to stay in his home... but here he was extending that invitation to you. That both excited and made you slightly uneasy at the same time, unsure of his intentions. You didn't want to disappoint your deity... but then again you know from your practice that Lucifer was not interested in forcing anyone to do anything. You could very well say no, and that would be that.
But something in his eyes seemed... hopeful. There was a slight twitch in the hand that rested against your soft cheek. Like he was nervous about your answer more than anything. It was a strangely human thing that you didn't expect out of someone as beyond the mortal realm like him. If that's the case, perhaps there was nothing for you to fear... perhaps there was more to The Morningstar than you might have been taught.
Still, your nerves would not let you relax enough to accept just yet. Besides, there was more than one deity here that you danced for. And you weren't going anywhere until you got the greatest of honors by dancing with both of them.
"Um, well," you smile sheepishly and step just out of his reach. You swore you heard the sound of a whine come from him. "before we go anywhere, I was hoping I might... also be awarded a dance with my queen, Lor- uh, Lucifer..?"
Lucifer's eyebrows perked up at the same time as Lilith's and he glanced back at her so quickly it made you giggle at the comical way he nearly twisted his whole body around like a snake. Lilith's eyes, glowing softly in the dark like amethyst, glance quickly between the two of you for a moment before standing from the tree and making her way towards you. She takes your outstretched hand in hers and smiles at her husband. Your powers surge with hers in perfect harmony. She gives him a look that tells him all he needs to know and his chest swells with joy.
"The night is still quite young, Lu," she says, getting a nod from the devil. "let's enjoy ourselves a little while longer~"
So the three of you dance across the fallen leaves under the night sky for a while longer. Losing track of time or all sense of the outside world beyond this earthy dancefloor. You couldn't imagine that another witch had ever had an experience like this. And Lucifer and Lilith can't imagine letting you return to your coven. Can't imagine returning home without you there. They truly hope you'll accept their invitation and stay with them for the night... perhaps even longer.
Even now they imagine you dancing before them dressed in a beautiful wedding gown and veil. All theirs. The final piece of their triad that they've been searching for for so long...
Oh, an endless lifetime of pleasure and wonders await you, little witch. As Lilith said, the night is still young.
And you haven't even begun to receive the fullest extent of your reward~
