Catching Up
“How do you like the new armor?”
“Fits like a glove, dad.” Banagan turned his guildstone in his hand as he listened to his father’s voice coming from it.
“Good. Was worried it wouldn’t. No idea what the cuisine is like over there.” There was a muffled chuckle which caused the young paladin to grin.
“I’m getting my exercise in. How are things at the school?”
“We’re both keeping busy. New students starting for both.”
“Shadowbreaker still sending trainees then?”
“He is. More than one of them have the excitement of an adventurer in their eyes, but good people none the less. And Niv has a couple new kids from the village now, too.”
“Glad to hear it, dad.” Banny paused for a moment, the silence just hanging in the air. “Well, I need to get going.”
“Okay, son. Let me know if you need anything.”
“Will do, dad.”
“Safe travels, son.”
“You, too, dad.”
The young paladin turned the stone in his hand one more time before putting it back into a leather pouch hanging from his belt. Taking a deep breath, Banny stood up from his desk and pulled on the bottom of his tunic in an attempt to straighten it out. His gaze took in the small room where he'd been staying before settling on the bed and the chestpiece that was laying on it. Banny grabbed the armor along its shoulder and held it up. He smiled and nodded as he looked over the delicate patterns that were engraved on the metal. Then, he hoisted it over his head and began fastening it over his tunic. With the armor settled, he turned towards the door. His shield and mace were resting against the wall next to it, a habit he had picked up from his father. Slinging the shield over his shoulder and hanging the mace from his belt, the paladin took hold of the latch and stepped out of his room.
