Jenna stood beside her mother atop the steps at the citadel square, trying not to fidget. She had too much pent up energy, too much excitement to hold still like a proper princess ought as the gates opened to let the King and his Knights through.
“Father!”
“Jenna, wait!”
The young princess ignored Guinevere’s call, too excited to see her father after days of watching at the windows to see if she could catch sight of the silver of armour and the crimson of Arthur and his Knights’ cloaks, signaling their return.
She was at her father’s side almost before he’d fully dismounted from his mare Llamrei’s back, throwing her arms around his waist. “I missed you so much!”
